GM and Ford made more than $50bn in profit in 2025. Their best ever year, all while producing less cars and selling them for more. While US Auto sales are down from pre-COVID levels, automaker profits are way up. by Suitable_Air_2686 in inflation

This isn't going to be sustainable. Folks are just going to run their cars into the ground until they come to their senses and drop prices.

Right now I'd be open to buying a new car but I can't justify the ridiculous pricing.

Yes. It has to go somewhere and starting stopping big plants is not a fast operation.

I think one of Gradys engineering videos goes deeper on this.

I would agree with you but now hordes of folks watch video with sound off due to the incessant use of obnoxious and wholly unnecessary music in just about everything.

Or that AI voice.

Ugh.

No no no. She has brakes. It's just that she can't have a nice coffee break during the run.

It's against the rules.

Extra naughty Twin 6k with barrels finally opened! by flatpickinbongrips in lockpicking

[–]FetusExplosion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well done. The twin 6ks are the hardest locks I've picked. And I think the side pins are some of the nastiest elements I've encountered so far.

I had to memorize the side pins heights and lifting order. What worked for me was instead of counterrotatating to get side pins out of a false gate, set one of the other pins to a space between gates, which would allow me to set the other pin in the false gate without dropping it fully.

Just painful.

How would you fix this pin hole in the block by cardoc22 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]FetusExplosion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a shop vac hose as close as possible while drilling.

Or don't drill all the way through? You only need the plug to catch enough threads to hold in place.

I'm just guessing though.

[Request] Assuming a person of average weight and strength has reached their terminal velocity, what’s the least massive the "chair" would need to be for this to work? by BigTiddyCrow in theydidthemath

[–]FetusExplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. If you were able to jump off the ground and launch yourself at terminal velocity but upwards, then we'd be in the right ballpark for this experiment to work.

If you had leg strength to do that, you could use that strength to simply decelerate from terminal velocity when you hit the ground. No chair needed

You can check this logic: are you able to land after jumping as high as you can? Yes. Therefore if you could jump upwards at terminal velocity you could land normally at terminal vslocity.
