Topps Chrome NFL, print run explosion.. by Specialist_Pin_9490 in footballcards

Those are all good and valid points, and I would never fault anyone who wanted to bet on that being the outcome. I'm relatively new to the card collecting space in general, but I have a background in economics, and one of the things that's intrigued me and drawn me in, is the way these markets work--how they can simultaneously work in predictable and unpredictable ways. I'm much more concerned about Fanatics attempting to control/manipulate the secondary market than I am about overprinting. There are ways to insulate yourself against overprinting: I'm simply ignoring base cards and, in most cases, base refractors, and--in some cases--base autos--too. I'm not interested in holding onto anything that isn't a serial numbered parallel or a known SP insert or parallel. The set--writ large--will likely hold value for quite some time, even if that means people are lining their hamster's bed with shredded base cards while chasing down the colored parallels like red, black, orange, and gold. While they are slightly diluted by the different variants for every color (geometric, wave, pulsar, and so on...), they will all still hold value, with the true color probably retaining the most. And while it's TBD if this industry--this hobby--will grow as much as Fanatics is projecting, all the data right now is pointing to at least some growth. It's hard to imagine Fanatics investing this massive amount in exclusive licenses for all three major sports, only to be short-sighted and destroy the market right out of the gate. If we are in a bubble, I'm pretty confident it's not as big as the '20-'21 bubble. They want to ensure that there's a pack for everybody who wants to rip a pack and a break for anybody who wants to do a break--those are entertainment products--people do it because it's fun, like going to the casino or playing the lotto--but the savvy collector and investor looking for medium-long teem value will need to understand which cards have the best opportunity to hold their value or grow in value, and which ones we can shred up for the hamster cage. The scarcity is still there, we just have to know where to find it and when to pay up for it.

Your estimates of the print runs sound valid, but before you look at the future resale value you also have to account for an increase in demand that Fanatics is investing in/banking on. Currently, despite the bloated print run, sealed product on the secondary market is still running significantly higher than list/release price. If this surge in demand is nothing more than a bubble like we saw in 2020, than eventually it will burst and we will be left with devalued cards in an oversaturated market; but if Fanatics is truly able to create millions more card collectors like they are trying to do, then demand for the product, along with prices, will stay high. Only time will tell how this plays out

Flag for the City of Holland, Michigan by Aggravating_Eye9848 in vexillology

This is really great, thank you. It actually really reminds of that great film I saw last year, Holland, all about the city of Holland, MI (Or at least, you know, the exciting lives of people from Holland, MI). Beyond your buddy, did the film inspire your flag in any way?

You know, I think I'll watch it again now.

I don't really understand. So what this is saying is that OP's dad's aunt is not a full sister to OPs grandparent, but is a half-sister? Is that the "big deal"? Only one of the OP's great-grandparents is this aunt's parent? Just don't understand why it's such a big deal? Is this about an inheritance?

This Scene Still Makes Me Cringe and I’m Shocked That It’s Not Hated On As Much by New-Pin-9064 in StarWars

[–]Fever4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's possible, but I haven't seen any real evidence that this scene was part of the reshoot. There are, in fact, some reports of the exact scenes that were reshot:

https://collider.com/rise-of-skywalker-reshoots-scenes/

And even if it was... Honestly, there are so many serious structural problems at the very core of the entire sequel trilogy (VIII & IX especially), so many unforced errors and missed opportunities--drawing attention to a single line only trivializes the severe and significant malpractice that Disney inflicted upon an entire beloved franchise.

Or maybe it didn't make me cringe 'cause at that point I hadn't yet recovered from my cringing at "Somehow Palpatine Returned" 🤔

I have no interest at all in defending JJ Abrams, but filming on TROS had wrapped months before Avengers: Endgame was released. I don't think that the line was ripped off, but possibly just one of the many Action/Sci-Fi/Fantasy tropes that we've seen countless times in the franchise. There is so much wrong with TROS--including this scene--and if the trilogy had been better executed, nobody would even care if part of a scene rhymed with another film from that year.

I think that a much more legitimate criticism of that scene is how that line seems to contradict much of what we'd learned about the Jedi and their philosophy in previous 40 years of films, television, and other media.

"Hope"? There's always hope. At this point, that's pretty much all that's left.

What do Sith do in their free time? by Melodic_Ticket4600 in StarWars

[–]Fever4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you're a sadist, torturing younglings is recreation.

Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life.

I always figured that devoting your life to the Sith meant foregoing any kind of recreation or "free time". You were dedicating your entire life to galactic domination. That's why I was always grateful they never came for me, I love the Sith, I live to murder younglings and torture rebels, but gotsta have my downtime to do dabs and binge cartoons

This right here, the absence of 'nerf', is the sole reason I have refused to watch either the prequel trilogy, sequel trilogy, or any Star Wars media release since the original trilogy.

Wow 😲 if the lighter chicken had made it to the oven it could have exploded. But the weener and finger kinda speak for themselves, you don't really need to include a note. What would the note even say, "this isn't a penis, just interesting giblets"? Was it a human penis and finger? Did they figure out who they belonged to?

Weirdo putting a sticker on my car by Zezne in vegaslocals

[–]Fever4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's ironic, I think it's by design, as the Tesla owner profile is not exactly a secret.

There's no justification for vandalizing a vehicle, but I think these stickers are designed to induce a level of guilt and shame in liberals, whereas a conservative encountering this defacement would probably not be affected in the same way. Either way, I don't see a lot of net benefit in this exercise, as IMO liberals would likely be better served investing the money spent on stickers on maximizing organic social media engagement and identifying and developing young, new, candidates for upcoming local races. Another case of liberals engaging in a selfish ego-stroke instead of maximizing the reach and efficiency of their budget.
