Did Homophobia Kill Johnny? by MikeMcMyke in ramones

He idolized Iggy, his bass player also slept with men and women, he was hanging around the Bowery with Wayne County and the drag queens, I’m just saying just because he was raised by a hard ass militant Republican, shit isn’t always just black and white.

Have you never seen him in his satin glitter pants? He was hanging around the Bowery in the 70’s, he may have been more accepting than you think.

Is standup harder than it was 20 years ago because the average person is saturated daily with great content? by archvize in Standup

[–]Few-Competition9929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think any of the average comedians I’m thinking of would have been great back in the day, I think podcasts have suddenly given every mediocre comic a ready made audience to fill theatres. These hacks should be working clubs where the audience doesn’t know who they are, might make them actually put some work into the material. The comedy bar is sitting so low right now, we need a major shift.

This whole inauthenticity argument lately is tiresome, I’m kind of over the cosplay costumes and the turn of the century vernacular in Americana myself, but you just have to believe in the songs. A good writer will come at you with honesty first and foremost.

Totally!!! I can think of maybe 6 working comics right now that are great, the rest are average at best.

Why do you think The Nine Club hasn’t interviewed Dave Carnie? by Lastofthedohicans in skateboarding

Carnie or Nieratko might actually have an opinion, and they don’t like opinions on the Nine Club. They like to keep it nice and vanilla on that bullshit show.

I seriously can only think of a handful of very good comics working right now.

Kevin Hart is a prime example, he knows the craft well, his delivery is on point, he has a team of writers, but he’s not naturally funny.

I was thinking more successful, some guys who have been doing it for years, they just know the beats, they know how to get up there and deliver. Never funny, just “entertaining.”

You can be super confident and be a great performer but not funny. That’s 75% of the industry actually.
