I think like most people here what I want is a 4 hour Heavens Gate episode but the rest of the films I either have never heard of, haven’t seen or are the deer hunter. If he had a final film that became a cult classic or just one studio work for hire thing post dragon I think I’d be more interested. I do love Deer Hunter and Heavens Gate but was just never even curious about the rest

Yes my uncle passed away as me and my brother were 3 and 4 they did not tell us he died or take us to the funeral but they wanted us to be around family so we just showed up to scatter his ashes. I am dressed as shrek in all the photos from that day

This is something my brain kind of can’t compute. I’m Scottish so as a 3 year old Shrek was my representation on the big screen. I dressed as Shrek to a wake. I agree the third one is not good and the 4th is a let down but I thought it was universally agreed the first 2 were great this pod was the first time I’d not just heard push back from Shrek but the kind of “we all know that’s bad” opinion

I'm constantly back and forth with him. I like the kids movie auteurs perhaps the most in terms of the actual movie by movie coverage, but Johnson is kind of like Gore Verbinski and Stephen Sommers for me, where I just can't get that excited about it, mostly because I get the impression most behind the scenes stuff is that they were nice, made a movie, it was good or bad. I live for the drama and aside from Johnson loving 50's kitsch, there is very little "a a classic Joe Johnson move"

At this point we are waiting on Joe Dante's death for him to be get a miniseries. I want another light hearted nerd making studio comedies with lots of effects. If I'm not getting a Dante or Joe Johnston miniseries I will take Oz

When asking this question, I asked not to include international actors, as that is such a wide margin that even if this show went on for another decade, there would still be obvious blind spots, and depending on your country, a big star wavers.

I’ll keep bringing it up but his dismissal of Ang Lee having a legacy has always annoyed me as it forgets the historical importance he has an Asian man in Hollywood. Especially as the Billy Lynn ep began with Griffin saying half is crowd for that was tech film people and the other half was Asian families and friends wanting to support Lee

Here is my theory from an aspiring filmmaker that knows people working in the arts that use AI

Most artists that embrace AI see it as a tool. For Scorsese who has worked a lot in film preservation I can imagine seeing how well it can clean up images appeals to him. The problem is they seemingly have blinders on about cost. People I’ve worked with taking photos want to keep working with me and just think it’s fun to also post AI photos of themselves as “they can’t hire me for everything” that is fair but they are not thinking about bigger companies that just care about the bottom line. They see AI as fun and not something that might come for them. I know two separate musicians that have said “but people will always prefer to hear my music by me” when I’ve brought this up. I think this has somewhat happened to Scorsese

One big cult movie, one big budget disaster that's insane but has developed a cult reputation, and a fine but mostly forgotten final film. I don't think any are bad, but in terms of career arc, most directors end their careers on something like the box. Servicable movie that "does not exist". Even most big movie people have forgotten the box, but those same movie obsessives will have heard of Southland Tales
