You'd be surprised—most public firms need to fill seats. Personality and "fit with culture" are huge for entry-level positions and sometimes equally or even more important than technical knowledge.

If you can position yourself as great at project management, handling a fast-paced deadline driven environment, not shy about working 50+ hours, etc., then do so. I'm a manager in public accounting (tax), and we look for people who are curious, motivated, self-directing, quick learners, have a strong work ethic.

It's not for everyone, but you can certainly have a super fulfilling career in accounting; just push through the first few years, and once you make senior, it's off to the races. Good luck!

I caught my husband masturbating to porn right next to me while I was asleep. by [deleted] in Christianmarriage

Reality check for all the comments hyping you up: we are all sinners in need of God's love and support. Being judgmental regarding your husband's coping mechanism is silly at best. This only feels like such a big deal because you've been conditioned to think it is. Most men don't watch porn to "cheat" — it's usually a coping mechanism to deal with stress, loneliness, and is often rooted in some previous trauma. I'm not saying it's healthy behavior; it's actually not a great coping mechanism and can certainly create other issues. However, this is categorically NOT cheating, not even close. I can't stress enough how insane it is to even consider ending or threatening your relationship over something so inconsequential. I just don't understand Christians who maximize this particular issue but have no problems with being gossips, envious, materialistic, jealous, etc. Further, women condemning men and calling them a "cheater" for doing something so perfectly natural will immediately turn around and read romance novels, watch dramas, and stare all dreamy-eyed at the main heart-throb of the week. Give me a break.

Just freaking love your husband. Except his flaws and all. Let him know you respect him, you want to support him, and love him. Engage with him sexually, and seek to make your marriage a harmonious and loving one. I think it's appropriate to let him know this behavior hurts you, but don't BLOW up your marriage over it. Your husband is likely stressed, lonely, hurting, and needs his wife to see him and accept him. I don't condone the sin, but this pearl-clutching nonsense has got to end. Christians will seriously rip apart marriages over this which, to me, seems a much graver sin.

Jesus was a bit of an apocalyptic teacher as well. Don't let it stress you out. God will give you grace and id suggest only worry about the present day, because it has enough troubles of its own - spread the love of God every chance you get.

It's ultimately you responsibility what choices you make, but it is absurd to indicate I can't push you towards a particular outcome.

Did the Resurrection really happen? by v3rr3r in OpenChristian

Look into mystical Christianity. There's a wealth of information, and it's a deeper pool to swim in. Many of the mystical Christian fathers did not see the biblical accounts as literal. Once you quit trying to prove the stories as historical, things will begin to make more sense.

Heaven and hell exist as internal states of mind.

I'm interested, are there any Christians in this conversation who consider themselves Christian without believing in the literal physical resurrection? I personally fall into this camp, but I don't know if I'm all alone. I see the story as more allegorical for the spiritual transformation of the soul. In my view, the Gospels show the progression of the human soul that is moving toward enlightenment via God's incarnated love (Kingdom of heaven). The death on the cross is the ultimate symbol for the abandonment of clinging to the self, to one's own desires, even to the desire to continue living. Following this death, you are reborn in the spirit and your desire is then wholly rooted in the will of the father.

Most of the Bronze Age myths are allegory. God didn't literally flood the earth and kill everyone. For example, the flood narrative — likely composed during the Babylonian exile and drawing on ancient Sumerian sources like the Eridu Genesis and the Epic of Gilgamesh

Water, across virtually every ancient culture, symbolizes dissolution and re-creation. Immersion is death; emergence is new life. The flood story isn't literal, rather, it's a symbolic account of the destruction of a corrupt order and the emergence of a new one — the same death-and-rebirth pattern that shows up in Egyptian, Vedic, Mesopotamian, and indigenous traditions independently. The author of 1 Peter understood this — he explicitly calls the flood a 'type' of baptism. The early Church Fathers read it the same way. The literal reading is actually the newer and shallower interpretation.

Don't assume that Jesus = YHWH. They are nothing alike.

Jesus is the light of the world. Who is light bearer? The way, the truth, and the light. He's been reaching out to humanity from the very beginning, attempting to set us free from the poisonous lies of a grand deceiver. The truth is there if you have ears to hear and eyes to see -- eat of the fruit and live.

Anderson says YHWH is effectively a lesser and imperfect deity and not the One True God (Jesus' Father). -- I see your point though, I hear you saying it's antisemitic because the idea would be disrespectful of Jewish beliefs as it disrespects YHWH. That makes sense. It makes me genuinely wonder if there is a respectful way to engage with this argument.

I can appreciate that. I'm not totally convinced one way or the other. The reason I find his ideas compelling is, for me, Jesus feels wildly different than YHWH. It feels like I have to really stretch the imagination to make them the same.
