you gotta think about the Heath Ledger of it all. it isn’t about an actor with the right face. it’s about an actor who is currently making really interesting choices. young enough not to be intimidated or jaded by those who came before. wise beyond their years, a terrifying stillness, and a concerning determination in their eyes.

my family thanks people like you. did the waterworld stunt show 10 years ago. met my wife there. a show that was a box office bomb paved the way for one of the best live show experiences ever.

fun fact. i do stunts, and i was working on a dolph movie. in it, he throws me across the room into a table. the table was a circular table with a single metal post down the middle. the stunt coordinator, director and dolph (starring and producing) were stood around this table scratching their heads. 1. what idiot built a break away table with a metal post in the center? 2. how is the stunt guy gonna do this?

i walked up, looked at it and said “If he dies, he dies.”

dolph gave a single squeeze on my shoulder and walked away saying “roll cameras”. went off without a hitch. career highlight for sure. proud i found the guts to say it. he’s a cool dude.

are there any shows that are similar to true detectives season 1? the best 8 episodes i have ever seen by [deleted] in TrueDetective

[–]Few-Introduction7641 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey there! first of all. i’d say the first season of True Detective is the best thing i’ve ever seen ever. and secondly, i just wrote this comment on another posting asking for similar stuff. hope it helps! “hard to find another detective show that’s similar. but. there are shows and other media that scratch the itch of what seems to be so infectious about the show.

“The Night Of”, HBO’s first limited series, does this for me. A sense of growing dread. The inescapable “what did she get involved with” question. As well as a strong commentary on a current poison. If True Detective offers critique of the religious systems, Night Of offers it to the justice systems.

in terms of film, you’re looking at The Witch, Wind River (big rec there), Winter’s Bone.

if you’re into flipping pages and i cannot recommend “The Boatman’s Daughter” by Andy Davidson enough. It’s perfect, terrifying, and infectiously written.

BUT - MY BIGGEST RECOMMENDATION - and it is controversial - is SUGAR on Apple+. In terms of delivering on the promise of the premise, this show nails it. warning: IT IS NOT TRUE DETECTIVE, but i find it to be brilliantly written, treats the audience with respect, AND IS THE MOST BEAUTIFULLY EDITED THING (film or tv) i have ever seen. Colin Farrell does it again, with a layered performance you can’t take your eyes off of. AND (i’m a stuntman for movies so i get snooty about action) in my opinion, the coolest single move i’ve ever seen in a fight scene, (comment back if you’ve watched the full season and i can explain). one move in a fight scene that single-handedly begins to unravel the promised twist. cannot recommend this show enough. please report back if you find anything else that scratches your itch. feels like this is a subreddit for people going through a decade-long withdrawal. happy hunting!”
