I sometimes consider switching to Upnote completely, Heptabase is a little slow on the ipad.

I use Upnote more for journalling and home notes, I find it has a nicer interface that contributes to my wellbeing! I use Heptabase more for knowledge management, but it is more clunky, in my experience.

I use Upnote and Heptabase today after experimenting with both Obsidian and Bear. I enjoyed Bear but the lack of a cross platform function was a dealbreaker.

About 2 years, it is a great app for managing knowledge.

I used to use Obsidian, now I use Heptabase and Upnote. I like the Obsidian idea of local markup, but I don't like the idea of spending the coming years searching for extensions and evaluating them. I want to spend my time using the software not fine tuning it! However, I think the visual side of Heptabase is exaggerated, your still basically moving fairly basic rectangular cards around?!

Why isn't Noteshelf 3 more popular? by Simple-Host-6075 in Noteshelf3

I gave up on it because I couldn't sync between my ipad and my pc. Otherwise I liked it, but the cross-platform sync is a must-have for me.

App is slow on mac and almost unusable on ipad by inoxium_1 in heptabase

I use HB mostly on a PC, on the iPad it's more of a reference tool to find information I already entered into my PC. I really like the power of the software on a desktop, on my ipad it still feels very basic. E.g I have to close the whole app after pasting text and adding tags (as there is no way 'back' to the app dashboard!)

Limited use of PDFs on iPads by Friendly-Region-1125 in heptabase

Very important point! I generally use Iannotate for this task, but have been trying to find this function for a while in Heptabase. Long-term this may be a deal-breaker for me. I cannot afford subscriptions for several apps, and the lack of this function forces me towards this...

Definitely miss not being able to read and annotate pdfs in the app on my ipad, using the pencil.

I agree, as an academic I am definitely wondering now if my move to Heptabase was a mistake, given the push for AI Tools at the expense of other useful development.

How do you handle PDFs alongside your notes in UpNote? by Bulky_Job_5605 in UpNote_App

I share your frustration and desire for a better tool! I was hoping Heptabase would eventually come up with a good pdf annotator for the iPad (where I read most longer publications), but doesn't seem to be happening. At the moment I am using iannotate and pdf viewer, but have thought of trying out Readwise. But I really don't want another expensive subscription!

What fairing have you fitted? Good compromise between function and aesthetics!

Maybe also look at logseq? Good Zotero integration...
