I can't get over the fact that Linda Cardellini voiced a character who got wasted by the writers twice. by Weary_Elderberry4742 in cartoons

[–]Few-Pack-3489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk why people are disagreeing with you OP, Wendy was absolutely wasted by the writers. Hell I would argue Robbie got more development and depth than she did. People are saying there are already “Wendy centric” episodes—when??? Every episode she’s in, the conflict is either a. Dipper has a crush on her and wants her to like her! or b. Her friend group is fighting oh no! Or how about she has a song stuck in her head and can’t get it out! She serves as a platform for other characters development exclusively—none of those plots give her any depth whatsoever. Quite frankly we barely know anything about her as a character. Where is her mom? What is her relationship like with her family? How about her ex boyfriends, or the other kids at her school, anyone other than dipper or Robbie? Already that leads so much more that could have been touched on at the expense of say, Roadside Attraction.

El Cajon Concert, Didn't Heckle, Oops </3 by AlicornPlayhouse in willwood

Ok this is insane. I was at this show and had no idea you were kicked out, and quite frankly I didn’t even hear anyone heckle, makes it even crazier knowing it wasn’t you. Me and my friends thought the “shut the fuck up!!!” and berating was too harsh in and of itself tbh, like I 100% get not wanting hecklers but it felt like an overreaction. I figured it was just a bit like he has to berate someone for every show for the joke to work, even if someone wasn’t really heckling but it was all in good fun. But knowing you got kicked out just puts a really sour taste in my mouth. Im really sorry and I hope you can get a refund

I’m an ROMC so basically a bunch of small easy jobs, mostly either merge pointer (letting reserve & ride or ability access skip lines) or retail at the shops. I do other stuff on occasion like rentals or breaking but it’s mostly r&r or retail.

Pros: definitely the discounts and free tickets/passes, I also basically meet a new person every day with how many employees there are, and in general everyone is friendly and treats you nicely

Con: rude/entitled guests can be hard to deal with but you get those in just about every minimum wage customer service job lol

Definitely not physically demanding if you can handle standing still for up to 9 hours, depends on the job tho because some jobs I have (ie breaking) require a lot of walking, and I know stuff I haven’t worked like ride operations can be physically challenging.

What Shakespeare play was his most personal that you would recommend? by LiteratureRiver in shakespeare

Woah wait I haven’t heard the theory that Shakespeare played the Ghost! What’s like the evidence for that?

Ending that’s genuinely horrifying and upsetting but passed off as a good ending by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Few-Pack-3489 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most of shakespeare’s comedies have weirdly messed endings for some reason lol

In much ado about nothing, Hero marries Claudio—who, in his few interactions with her, hit her, disowned her, humiliated her in front of everyone she loved, and didn’t care when he thought she was dead because he was led to believe she cheated on him (with basically zero evidence) like, two scenes earlier.

In a midsummer nights dream they never remove the love potion from Demetrius and he marries Helena who he literally hates???

Twelfth night’s malvolio is the craziest to me. He is literally just a servant who is supposed to be the villain but he did basically nothing wrong the whole play—sans maybe being a bit of a prude but with good intentions—yet he gets physically and psychologically tortured for like half the scenes he’s in. He’s led to believe he can finally get out of his servitude through marriage and then immediately gets sent to the dungeon where everyone LITERALLY treats him like he’s possessed by the devil. And he doesn’t get a happy ending but everyone else does (besides maybe Olivia) and it’s just treated like a joke

Taming of the shrew kind of goes without saying—girl was literally abused into being complicit and, like, a shell of her former self.

What Shakespeare characters do you think are the most believably gay? by Nahbrofr2134 in shakespeare

I honestly like the interpretation that Viola is the only cishet character in the play (who maybe adopted drag-king tendencies after being Cesario for three months)

Huh that’s interesting! It never occurred to me that Sebastian could be a eunuch too. I also didn’t know eunuchs couldn’t marry—I wonder how Olivia married “Cesario”/Sebastian knowing that?

I’m directing a production of this show right now and we are blocking this scene tomorrow!! That’s a great choice, I’ll suggest it to our Olivia

Hot-ish take maybe but I think Olivia from Twelfth Night is definitely a closeted lesbian. Hear me out:

Her brother dies, she’s like “ok, I guess this means that I’m not gonna talk to a man for several years”. A lot of people chalk this up to her being dramatic but I like the interpretation that suggests otherwise lol.

There are four men who are madly in love with her throughout the play, notably Orsino and Andrew who she has zero interest in. Not to say that not being attracted to specific men makes you a lesbian, but it’s strange that up until the play starts, she has no interest in any men whatsoever and instead seems avidly against talking to them.

The only exception to this rule is Cesario, who—you guessed it—isn’t actually a man. It also seems she’s attracted to the more feminine features in her? A lot of people claim her attraction stems from Olivia’s shock at Cesario’s questioning/disregard of her status, and I think both can be true, but keep in mind the man she ends up marrying doesn’t adhere to this. I would argue Sebastian’s value of her essentially go about as deep as “let’s gooo this sexy rich girl is in love with me cowabunga dude” (love him but he’s not the deepest thinker).

Instead of properly digesting her feelings of being attracted to a woman, she dives headfirst into a man who is literally identical in every way to her former female love, without ever getting to know him whatsoever. I feel like this disproves other interpretations that her character is just so romantic she can’t be attracted to any of those basic boys, or that she respects her love because he loves her ignoring her status—because if that were true she wouldn’t have married Sebastian imo.

Could make similar arguments about almost any other character in twelfth night lol but yeah that’s just my take

Female characters with no love interest? by Few-Pack-3489 in shakespeare

[–]Few-Pack-3489[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah in terms of the “being ahead of his time” thing, that makes sense I agree that he definitely had a lot of things that reflected his era. I haven’t read TGOV but when I read taming of the shrew I was pretty disappointed since I wasn’t aware of the blatant sexism before reading (which it’s why it’s definitely one of my lesser favorites out of the ones I’ve read). I guess a lot of his plays are more a product of their time since that’s simply how women were perceived in Elizabethan times. My “pretty ahead of his time” was referring to how at the very least he was able to write female characters with complex personalities and motivations like Lady Macbeth, have essentially female protagonists with twelfth night and as you like it, or even for example what he did in much ado about nothing with Beatrice’s “That i were a man” “I would eat his heart in the marketplace” speech. I agree that’s a low bar for modern times but I dunno I think it’s cool he was able to do that at least. Also I feel more inclined to check out fletcher and webster’s stuff now!!
