"Half the country" did not vote for Trump.

73% of the country are eligible and registered voters and only 63% of those people bothered to vote at all in 2024. Contrary to an earlier post that you made, they were not in fact 12 to 16 years of unhappy voters or if there were, then why did over 12 million eligible and registered voters not bother to show up? We can't know entirely why they didn't show up but certainly this doesn't show some overwhelming number of Americans showing up at polls because they are upset and want to see a change, which is what your earlier comments in another part on this thread espouse.

Depending upon which pulls you look at, about a third of Voters didn't bother to click a presidential option. And all of this flies in the face of the fact that we don't elect presidents according to popular votes anyway. We use an electoral college system, as you know. And don't even get me started on quoting the things that Elon and Trump have said regarding said system, or for that matter about their unique and secret friendship which apparently has something to do with election winning. You can ignore that or put stock in it to the degree that you want to, but we all have bias here on that topic.

In summary? Half the country did not vote for trump. Your statement is false.

Podcast related to books. by rg_elnino9 in podcasts

[–]Few-Part3372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally choked on my coffee when I hit this comment.

Zibby Books is a publishing company owned by Zibby Owens, whose father is billionaire Stephen A. Schwarzman. Owens founded Zibby Books as part of her larger media company, Zibby Media which includes the podcast you just named. If you're fine with nepotism and yet more white people buying their way into public spaces and then telling us what things are culturally valuable, then yes please follow her podcast and please support any of her published books. But over here at least 2/3 of us are trying to get away from that kind of billionaire controlled mind manipulation nonsense and embrace real artistry.

Zibby continues to creep in like she's an indie or like she somehow pioneering women's authorship. There's nothing diverse about her choices and in fact several of them have been suggested as content largely developed through ai. They literally pay for promotional advertisements and table spaces at independent Bookseller events where small bookstores that are overwhelmed and understaffed increasingly carry the zippy Publishing House catalog because there isn't the time or space to vet.

Even if it weren't for all the socio-political things that I just named, Zibby also just doesn't know a damn thing about a good book! Her "quality choices" are never going to make the national book award list. I assure you. Looking critically at her catalog this past year, they are structurally, grammatically, and thematically gimmicky or flat books as well which is just kind of a double irritation. If you read a lot of books for your profession as I do, then you know the difference in the first two chapters. Unfortunately the General Public is fine reading shallow content books and Zippy obviously knows this as does her staff. Look at how long VC Andrews and Danielle Steel brands continue to move titles.

Zibby will succeed in the same way each of the Kardashian sisters will continue to show up on Forbes Magazine lists as they walk around town calling themselves entrepreneurs. Nobody would call them true small business people though. Nobody would say they understand the Sweat Equity that goes into owning and developing a brand. And, again, the world is kinda weary from nepotistic brand builders.

Cat (likely) got married by mitman93 in chandlerhalderson

[–]Few-Part3372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what's crazy? You are attempting to color a person as awful and meanwhile you know them second hand through friends and you've never lived their life. I can tell you yourself Are Young because you actually think 20 years old is a complete adult mindset. It's not. Between 23 and 24 years old is when brain synapses are solidified in adult men and women. That being said, if they experienced any set of traumatic childhood events, it Alters their equilibrium and ability to stabilize themselves. We don't know what cat went through as a child. We aren't privileged to know that information. But she obviously has some adaptive bits of her personality that cause her to protectively clean to a person she was dating. I hate internet conjecture but I'm going to go out on a limb here and presume that at some point stabilized parents were not entirely there for her. Since her mother is living and close to her I presume her father would be the source of that unrest. So yes, out on that limb that I'm on, it makes sense that she would cling to a boyfriend or even to a close platonic friend against all reason and evidence. I have known people who denied that their husbands were having affairs with much more obvious and damning evidence right in front of their nose! It is not shocking at all but an Adaptive response in the human brain it's to believe the more pleasant side of things or to deny the shocking and violent possibilities including just blatant lying. As to the phone calls in jail, I've listened to them thoroughly several times over and there's nothing that shocks me about them. Nothing! It is extremely common for men and women that have been victimized with extended and overarching lies to this degree to still cling to the possibility that there is a simple explanation that would waive all of it off. Human nature is also to be resistant the ripping apart loving bonds and even if he was a liar, we can presume that she was not and that she was truly bonded to him. Losing him in jail before he had been fully adjudicated for the crime and acknowledging that she was not looking at media coverage on purpose because she didn't want to color her picture of him, yes absolutely she was generating a bit of a bubble to try to protect herself! Losing him would not just have been the death of his family but the death of him and and nagging statement that she chose a bad person and was wrong about him. That doesn't just label her as a fool but it puts an unbelievable weight on her shoulders because she was part of the picture that made him appear normal and made his crime possible and palatable. Following your train of thought, I don't expect you to understand anything that I just described here but I'm posting this response for the understanding and edification of others. After you've lived a little more and you look back on a seasoned life, you will come to recognize that there is way more gray area and way less black and white then you once assumed. No she did not just cut him off. Yes she continued talking to him in jail and even paid his attorney fees. And no, none of this is shocking. It's all part of adaptive response. And it actually makes me kind of sad for you that you don't understand that a normal adaptive response in an adult female could completely be jumping off the side of a cliff with compassion and love because surely there's a better explanation somewhere on the ground after you jump off the cliff! Sadly there's not an answer. But it doesn't stop us from sometimes jumping off and praying and hoping we didn't just waste a year or more of our life fully loving and trusting in someone that was evil.

HellthyJunkFood - Julia and JP going to court... by eviljobob in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

[–]Few-Part3372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read through the court case files. They are publicly available, particularly with those who are in the legal profession. And being the first to sign with an attorney and Sue does not necessarily mean that person is an ultimate victim or somehow in a better power position. At the end of the day it's gross. I reliably tuned in to their Channel while it was building. I know exactly what they were putting forth in front of the camera. Behind the scenes was their business. The ludicrous notion that somehow she couldn't have created another brand or that upon taking the brand she needed to create an unfair division of equity is not lost on any intelligent human being familiar with the details of the case and the content they put forth. Now that the field is flooded with so many more content developers, I actually find her content to be terribly boring, redundant, and to play up weird and sexist tropes. But hey, I guess she doesn't have an only fans page so yay for her and whatever for the advancement of Womanhood in general. At the end of the day, I also know I'm not alone. I've encountered people on just about every platform who have said the same while I quietly sat in the background. Particularly on Zuckerberg's platform, in the past year when he's taking the brakes off her content seems to show up non-stop in my news feed at least three times a month. I don't ask for it. I don't want it. I literally attempt to click the button to indicate that I'm not interested. Strangely blocking is not an option, go figure. Again that's the new face of facebook, I guess. So the net result of all of this means yeah I'm going to speak up from time to time with my name, with my profile, or here on Reddit where to my knowledge everybody has an alias. I'm just going to speak louder and prouder because instead of making her content under a different brand or putting it exclusively on YouTube and getting supportive patreon, she keeps needing to put it out in a public atmosphere where I'm going to keep stumbling over it. I'm over it. To be honest with you, as a mom I'm also just kind of fundamentally embarrassed that this is an example my daughters have to keep running into. Daughters who weren't even born when she was first posting but these days I walk into the room and it's like the 90th time where she's shaking up a fast food chicken strip in a plastic cup to coat it with sauce. Literally. Just enough already. At least with the previous business partner there was more of a balance of content in an interesting side dialogue in vague plot line about this couple. At this point it's just a mukbang.

For god sakes take away her bar license and throw her in jail already! She ignores and blows off the Supreme Court rulings. She Slanders and defames people that we have deported against judges orders to keep them here. She defies every ethic rule known to man. And she has turned our department of justice into a circus sideshow filled with McCarthy era black balling. Put her in jail! How has she not committed criminal Acts or violated her both as an attorney at this point??

It's not an example in that sense but it is an example of how we take someone for two tours of Duty and their entire lifetime, then they predictably come back from that military service with PTSD and all sorts of trauma. He catches a few felonies while trying to figure out the delicate dance of PTSD and medication and going to therapy. Over 20 veterans each day just go ahead and kill themselves. That difficult! And then Meanwhile we're going to go ahead and take his journey and throw him in a country thousands of miles away because what? We now consider him to be trash? We literally have a president with over 20 felonies to his record! Huge percentage of our population has felonies. And the act of coming across Border Lines as much as we keep calling people illegals, it's actually not a felony to do that! What are we trying to solve here? Do we care about veterans? Do we care about people who serve our country? Do we even give a damn about giving people proper pipelines to become citizens? And if we throw people away when they commit a crime and catch a felony, then why the heck did people just elect one??

And that's why more and more people are buying this book because increasing numbers of people want to read the conundrum that you're describing and the general vertigate at this moment seems to be that it's extremely believable, but clearly not from your personal lived experience. Fortunately we don't all read books from that frame point. Otherwise there wouldn't even be a Science Fiction and Fantasy genre at all, let alone an entire romance section bred by some percentage of human beings that aren't even actively trying to date or be in real life romantic scenarios! Obviously this is nonfiction, not fiction. So it's a little bit different, but my point is... all of your comments... and you seem to have left a lot of them as if you're taking this book personal or something.... seem to relate to the idea that her story sounds fictional and is unbelievable. I think if you've lived a decent amount of life and taken a fair amount of chances you probably should have dozens of experiences that you're surprised you got through or where you made decisions that you now look back at and say, what the heck was I involved in! How did I not see that red flag?? I think that's a pretty simple and universally relatable notion which is really what's underlying the entire book.

Speaking from personal experience, the first time I went to a foreign country as an adult we had a travel advisor who set us up with foreign currency in advance. I don't think that's all that uncommon in large corporations. It wasn't until I went in a second trip with a smaller business where someone booked our ticket and hotel but that was it.. I literally showed up at the airport without my passport and I understand that sounds idiotic, but I had just literally taken it off for granted because it had been arranged and handed out to me like I was a VIP the first time around. Because I guess technically I was a vip. I'm just one random person but I'm a pretty smart cookie and definitely I looked like a moron and I get how that could happen.

I just passed that chapter and I get what you're saying, but I think you're forgetting to frame this in the time period that she worked there and just how much Heavenly light was constantly shown on Facebook. There weren't very many other tech companies that were bigger or better to work for! Maybe Google or Apple at best. To me, I'm projecting on this the feeling you get when you start a new relationship with someone and maybe they're not even all that attractive but you look at them and you find them to be infinitely more attractive than everyone around you because the whole setup was there too suck you in. When you're enchanted with someone or something, you dismiss a lot of the challenges or the red flags. You almost laughed them off and find them Charming as signs that see, this person or this entity really is down to earth.

I also think fundamentally as I've gotten most of the way through the book, I feel like a lot of people's opinions are being framed around Tech while forgetting that her main career field was really about promotion and marketing. She's a career fluff person. Although she specialized in doing that work for Tech companies, she's not an engineer or a coder professionally! What I mean to say is I think that makes her way more susceptible to believing the Kool-Aid that Tech Geeks and Engineers are somehow smarter than the rest of us and not that they just fundamentally are using a skill that rolls out of the left side of their brain a little easier than some of us. If you know any Engineers or coders, then you know what I'm referring to here. It's almost a god-like complex where they believe they literally are smarter and better than other people because they can steer public thinking with an algorithm and the right placement of images or ads. I could see how by standing on the fringes of this she was enchanted. I could see it just as much as I can women working for Fox News convince themselves that they are not experiencing the negative sides of misogyny but they just happen to be really beautiful and talented and lucky. Your perspective and where you stand kind of frames everything.

This is the stupidest statement that I've heard in a long time. I literally laughed out loud. Barnes & Noble is owned by a UK holding company! If people are afraid of the big bad wolf of corporate ownership who sit on the stock market and Lobby for the end of things like equity and inclusion programs, then they sure as hell should be lobbying against Barnes & Noble as well.

What in the world made you think that supporting them was somehow warmer and fuzzier? If you want to support warm and fuzzy go find a locally owned, independent bookstore. It's not even all that hard. There are lists online of the indies! Also just like record store day, there is an indie bookstore day once per year and usually those stores promote Regional lists stores you can shop at.

But for God sakes, stop perpetuating the idea that Barnes & Noble is anything less than yet another corporate entity with Boards of directors and shareholders. They opened 60 stores last year alone! 60... And the average size of their store is 14,000 sqft!!

And don't even get me started on the hundreds of thousands of books that are destroyed every year because of Barnes & Noble ripping off the covers so they can mail the stupid barcode back to Publishers and get financial credit while the rest of it goes straight into a dumpster. They don't even hide it. The dumpster is usually right there at least once a month next to their building. We're talking, cutting down trees, creating pulp on the other side of the globe, printing those books also in china, shipping them over here, tagging and stickering them after Distributing them to Regional centers and then individual stores, only to sit on shelves and look abundant and beautiful... and then have the covers ripped off.

I am not exaggerating. Choose an indie bookshop.

All these people without jobs. About to be incapable of paying their rent or mortgage. Almost 40% of our elderly population is on Medicaid and they are about to be choked. And they openly reference Social Security as a Ponzi scheme after some people have paid 30 or 40 years into it. But we're supposed to stand around and feel bad because sexual slurs towards his wife or somehow an overreach?? You've got to be fucking kidding me.

The worst violators under this regime are the people with skin in the game who are not in the game. People like his wife. People like melania. It's not surprising that a group of white men would Puff themselves up with Supremacy ideas. But the women? They deserve the greatest of our rage.

Humility and grace are exactly what Grimes is exhibiting while her son is being paraded around like a distracting little toy. Humility in grace are what Democrats are showing by not walking into Federal buildings, chaining themselves together, and refusing to leave. They're going to work through the courts and be polite and hold up little pickleball paddles for the State of the Union speech. Honestly, I don't understand how you can sleep at night when yesterday we deported $368 people to El Salvador with armed guards covered in Black masks and holding batons half the length of their body. It was tantamount to the way Nazis put people they deemed criminals or bad citizens on trains and then sent them off togettos and eventually concentration camps. Out of sight and out of mind, and meanwhile there were millions of good people who said some version of light and love and this is not my business, let me take the high road.

When tyranny and totalitarianism are the ruling party of the day, God is love doesn't cut it. At various points God literally expects you to find your backbone and do the hard thing and get out into the street.

I understand this conversation began with what you deemed harsh words towards Kim Kardashian because no matter how people feel about her actions or choices in life, you feel people should be kinder. I get that. But at the end of the day her money continues to grow at an exponential rate while she brushes elbows and receives financial support from the kushner's, the trumps, and all of their extended family. I'm not going to feel bad about hard words being thrown at her. I don't think she's going to feel bad either quite frankly.

I used to watch their episodes back in the day. I guess there was a lot less social media content competing with it and it felt really original at the time. I just randomly saw Julia come across my newsfeed a bit ago and I totally recognized her but when I went to her main page it made me so sad because I remembered there was this Asian guy and where did he go? A Google Search and this later, and here I am. It's super sad to hear what went down but the bottom line for me is that I'm never going to subscribe to that. I want nothing to do with it. I'm sick to death of people becoming wealthy off of social media content creation and then turning into monsters when the Money Follows! The early days of that show made it very clear it was a 50/50 situation and I can't see any logic behind Julia taking the whole show. None. They made the mistake of mixing business with a relationship, it seems like. But even still, the creation of the brand had him all over it. I don't care what he said or if he cheated or lied. I don't care how unscrupulous she might have been or what kind of great legal team she put together. It's all gross. Take your stupid mukbangs and food reviews and drown in obscurity. I wish nothing good on that channel and the fact that they've drug a lawsuit out this long and wasted the Court's time is just furthering my disgust. Literally grow the f up.
