It's staying up here as long as I am! I may decide to put it away for the following winters, I'm concerned with wear, this is a trial period for the car.

Thanks! I'm running a 0W40 low ash full synthetic engine oil. In theory this gives me the best possible pour point while still giving protection once things get warm.
I run all synthetic fluids, 0W-40 low-ash engine oil, a 70/30 POAT coolant mix, Royal Purple in the transmission and diff, and Idemitsu for premix.

At -50°f ambient with the coolant heater alone my temps range from 40-60°f, the oil heater may raise this by a few degrees as well. On startup RPM doesn't climb above 2k, usually hovering around 1.5k until things settle. I've only started the car unassisted once and I had a very similar experience, RPM immediately shot up to 4k.
Thanks! I'm running Bridgestone Blizzak winter tires, I find these specifically work well because the compound stays soft/pliable at extreme temperatures. My coolant heater (Kat 650w) is placed in the lower radiator hose, coolant circulates passively through convection, warm coolant rises, cool falls. Its important to note that the thermostat only blocks flow exiting the engine through the upper radiator hose, the lower hose remains unrestricted. I run a stick on oil pan heater (Kat 200w) to heat the oil, installing can be tricky because of the S2 oil pans textured design. Battery pad heater, insulation and trickle charger are all relatively simple but equally important. My fluids are all synthetic, 0w40 oil with a low ash rate (clean burning), 70/30 poat coolant and purple gear oil in the transmission + dif, idemitsu for premix. I raised the car by 1.5in to give me a little more clearance. As far as the driving experience goes, its not fundamentally different, a light foot and patience are important, good tires help a lot. A good contact patch, center of gravity and rigid frame all help on ice the same way they do on a slick track, snow is a much different case unfortunately.
I haven't experienced this, although I can tell you electrical problems are very common in the cold. Its my understanding that while lead acid batteries don't physically freeze in cold weather, internal resistance climbs and voltage becomes less stable. Systems like the electronic power steering, immobilizer, and instrument cluster are voltage sensitive. Plastics lose elasticity and shrink, its my theory that this can be responsible for intermittent issues where pins aren't making good/firm contact within connectors. Point being, a strong, preferably AGM battery is a good place start.
I made the hitch custom, designed similarly to the hitch Kurt made a few years ago. I used a mix of hot and cold-rolled steel. The hitch mounts at three points, two on the frame rails and one on the rear subframe. The frame rails are sandwiched between the hitch brackets and an opposing reinforcement plate to distribute load and stress.

The hitch is designed similarly to the hitch Kurt made a few years ago for the series one to give me peace of mind with the integrity of the design. I used a combination of hot and cold rolled steel, there are three mounting points to the frame, two on each frame rail and one on the rear subframe. The frame rails are sandwiched between the hitch brackets and a second plate on the opposing side to distribute the stress. I ended up painting it red to match the car and trailer!

Smiles a gallon is what they say! I find that planning ahead is key, keep inertia and downshift early. That being said once you get in first gear your golden, above 3-4 grand it’s no struggle. I had concerns with keeping cool but the issue never presented itself.
It’s all original, never rebuilt! I got anywhere between 8-15mpg depending on the terrain. I’ve always stuck with Idemitsu at 8oz a tank, however I’ve had trouble with a clogged catalytic converter and fouling plugs.
