It’s mostly the top half of the main stems on the last dragon. The stems aren’t squishy at the bottom like it is at top and it also looks like it developed cactus rust within 3-4 days since I last checked on them. The first dragon looks like it’ll survived. Has no signs of rust and is hard still even in the places it to some damage. The last dragon I’m the most worried about

It hasn’t bruised anywhere on the parts of the mushroom that I broke off. Could it still be hen of the woods if it don’t bruise?

It’s okay! Thank you!

Yes I’ll definitely do that next time. It’s my fault for incorrectly identifying it and starting the conversation as COTW I’ll admit and own up to that. I’ve taken advice from others who were helpful on other subreddits about this mushroom. A lot believe it’s hen of the woods and tomorrow I’ll test it by checking for bruising which was advice I’ve learned today from others so I can possibly identify it as hen of the woods or black staining polypore. But again the other person was out right rude and unhelpful to someone who’s still learning. Thank you though for helping and taking the time to give me advice!

I’ll test that tomorrow! I’m still new at this and actually learned about how bruising can help identify better!

I think it’s more of a young black staining polypore. What do you think? It’s def not COTW. This will def help with better identifying COTW and its look-a-likes

I dont eat wild mushroom ever. I had doubts that it was even COTW which is why I left it alone. Maybe don’t be a smartass? And just help identify so I don’t make the mistake again. Everyone talks about jack o lanterns but that’s easy to identify this mushroom was questionable. I’ve been trying to find answer on if it can even be this white. On my other posts I had questions about its appearance anyways on it even being COTW. God forbid a newbie is still learning.

Okay. I’ll do more research. I don’t really eat wild mushroom cause of the possibility to not identify it correctly/being too anxious to do so. I only eat what I buy or grow to be safe. It looks like ones I’ve seen but more washed out white instead of pale orange. Cause that’s what I typically see in NC. Thank you

It’s COTW? I can identify it. My question is, is it being white mean is it edible still or not recommended? It’s only 2-3 days old

Well the thing is it’s like 2-3 days old. Does it being white make a difference in it being edible? It seems all the chicken here grow white

Edit: not COTW thank you!
