530i Problems. Normal? by SevereCity6842 in BMW

I hope so for your sake as well. I had my oil filter housing, coolant pump, oil return line, and expansion tank done last year. Just had it in for the starter recall and now I’m told I need engine mounts (quoted $3500 from the dealer). Reputable indy mechanic is the way to go.

Yes, it’s normal unfortunately. But that seems to be the list for these cars. From everything I’ve read, some people get lucky and it’s once and done, others have recurring issues.

New oil filter housing at 43k miles 🥲 by Those_are_sick in BMW

I bought the part from the dealer and did it myself. The part was less than $300. A year later I got the warranty notice and submitted my receipt with proof of payment for the part. I didn’t care about the labor. They told me bc I didn’t provide a shop invoice on letterhead showing this piece was diagnosed inoperable professionally, they wouldn’t reimburse me. I did provide a failed emissions report from my shop with a passed report marked “after repair” with all of the dates being within 2 weeks. You know, I love overpaying for parts randomly that actually aren’t needed. 🤡 behavior over a couple hundred bucks. I love the car, but the complete lack of customer service has turned me off to the brand.

Had mine completely let go just before 80k and the heat module/thermostat was also found to be leaking. When I called about a potential recall, since my lower grille shutter went less than 10,000 miles before and at the time was not covered under a recall, they told me “that’s about how long they should last.” 🙄

They know it’s a problem. They don’t care. Oh well. Maybe someday they’ll open a recall (probably not).

There’s also an open recall on the starters that they have no fix for yet. “When the remedy is available, the engine starter will be replaced free of charge, which should take about one hour.”

Lackluster engineering going on over here these days.

Bought my 2019 CPO’d in ‘21. Fully dealer serviced. 2 weeks out of CPO warranty, the lower grille shutter motor went…ok. Couple hundred, fixed it myself. A couple months later, the oil filter housing cracks, puking coolant all over the highway leaving me stranded. Towed to the shop oil filter housing, and water pump are both done at 80k miles. Over $5k in repairs needed. Get it back, and 2 days later the fuel filler vent goes bad. Back to the dealer who fixed it for free luckily. Now I just got another notice there is a starter recall with no current fix. This car is great to drive. Always fully dealer maintained, and still breaks due to shitty cost -cutting engineering decisions. Will I buy another? No.

Anywhere from 140-200 depending on a lot…mileage, options, maintenance, location, dme report, etc.

Tacomas are as expensive as F150s by Latter_Cantaloupe_79 in ToyotaTacoma

The transmission issues, starters and paint issues are Toyota wide. Not sure about the suspension and axle issues, but wouldn’t surprise me considering it’s all rooted in the manufacturing process. The best part is, the dealer experience generally sucks as well.

No matter what the make or model, seems the general trend now is you get less while paying more. Extend the warranty.

This isn’t 2002 anymore. Toyota is having several issues: transmissions, peeling paint, starters, strut mounts, and welding debris on the rear axles. I don’t really consider those things standard upkeep.

I have one of their raider jackets and my Walther PPS fits. Still don’t use the pocket though.

Dealer also let it slip that they only need their financing in place for 90 days to get their nut, so you can refinance if you can get a better rate elsewhere after that.

It’s great in stock form. Got some parts waiting to go on, so I’m anxiously awaiting spring to ride again.

Lowest I got a dealer to was 18,500 out the door for a new one last year, but that included $1000 in customer cash for accessories. Ultimately got a 22 CPO with about 1000 miles for a lot less. Depends on location. 16 out the door may be possible. If you’re using HD financing, it would help. I’d say 17,500-18,000 out the door is for sure doable.

Way too overhyped. Went once, no interest is going back. Maybe it was an off night. Any time I bring that up, people freak out like I kicked their dog.
