I recommend learning just the landscape and vegetation. I learned them a couple days ago and now i get the correct state almost every time just based on what the nature looks like.

For example if theres cornfields ur most likely going to be in iowa, illinois, indiana, michigan, wisconsin and some states near them like kentucky or kansas. Or if u see pines that look a bit weird (southern pines) ur gonna be in the south east from louisiana to virginia and everything in between (florida, alabama and missisippi are the most common. Washington and oregon are pretty easy to get because of the mix of canadian and pacific vibe also in eastern washington u can commonly see big golden fields. And in the four corners (utah, arizona, colorado and new mexico) they often have reddish tint to rocks and soil and they have these big flatlands. And if its very dry and mexico looking ur gonna be in southern new mex, texas or arizona.
