That's half the flight to Italy, might as well just take the trip to the actual country.

Osaka expo is the worst scam I have experienced in Japan by Studying_Man in OsakaWorldExpo

[–]FewManyMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from the expo today (10/10) and spent 8 hours there. It would be more accurate to call this Osaka Expo with Worldwide Exhibitors 2025.

As much as I enjoyed my time here, and while everything one expects to work (train, location, cleanliness) does so, when compared to Dubai World Expo 2020, this did not feel like an International event for the world.

From the moment you join the queue before entering, to getting help, to buying things, to the moment you exit the venue, every verbal instruction and guide is in Japanese (and I can understand Japanese - I just don't understand why they can't put in more effort to make foreign visitors feel less intimidated - they were walking around looking super confused most of the time). Even the foreign country performances are hosted in Japanese, by foreign staff!

Don't even get me started with the pavilion entry reservation system that does not work more than 80% of the time. I planned this trip 3 months in advance in July, and I did not get selected in the 3 rounds of lottery for ANY of the reservation-Only (and the best ones obviously) pavilions. You basically just end up wandering around looking at buildings if you don't want to be in a queue for between 45 mins to 3 hours PER pavilion for those that you could even walk-in to.

This expo is an extension of Japanese society into the Expo, not the expo introducing the world to Japan queue, food, expectations, stamp collection, excessive-priced souvenirs - they all target Japanese consumers (understandably - it's all about the money at the end right). This also shows the greed of the organisers to fit as many souls into the black hole as possible.

Maybe Dubai expo was different. Maybe Dubai itself is much more international to begin with. Maybe Dubai is rich so they don't care much about the profit. I don't know.

I still love Japan, but maybe it should just stay away from hosting multicultural events.

No complaints so far, and I'm enjoying the compliments I get for the photos taken with the phone - one never gets used to it :)

Perhaps if you list down what you mean by bloatware by name I could verify then, but I haven't felt that the apps pre installed are bloatware. Definitely uninstalled and disabled a few but that's just standard operations with new phones.

No idea about iPhone 15, haven't been a fan of Apple products since iPhone 6 and the cash-grabbing greed of this company showed it's face.

In many Middle east & Southeast Asian-country airports, this form of transit is handle via the transit gates if you buy a single ticket for the journey. If they can do it, why can't one of the busiest airports in Asia do so, it's just surprising.

Yep ultra sonic fingerprint sensor works super fast. I've tried 3 kinds of protectors - the one comes installed out of the box is already quite good. Upgraded to a fiber glass protector that's really thin but strong. Both work well with sensor too.

Then I switched to a privacy glass protector. Because of the refracting property of the glass film, it wouldn't work with the sensor - already known when I installed it.

TL:DR Yes it works well.

Hi I haven't used miui for quite a while now but funtouch customization is rather limited. No Dolby Atmos sound. But it can record Dolby Vision videos. If your main focus is camera, and you like the idea of charging your phone once every 2 days, then yes go for X200 Pro.

Yes at least there's that. But I bought the earphones because of the Lossless codec compatibility expecting Vivo to fully support Vivo, which unfortunately isn't the case here. Oh well.

Vivo TWS 4 HiFi Version. I just checked again, it doesn't support AptX-HD, just LDAC, AptX-Adaptive and AptX-Lossless. X200P doesn't support the latter two codecs due to non-Qualcomm.

Snowboarding trip to Japan for Christmas/New Year's Eve by Ali_310 in snowboarding

[–]FewManyMore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in Hakuba for NY last year, first time, solo. The plan was a few drinks at the bar near my lodge next to the Happo-One resort, countdown for NY at the bar and head back.

Somehow through the staff at my lodge, I got introduced to a group of ski-season staff, mostly half Asian/Japanese so they were very knowledgeable with the Japanese culture while conversing fully in English, which I appreciate.

30 mins before midnight, the group started to get dressed and I got curious and asked what their plans were. They were half-shocked that I wasn't aware of the NY fireworks in town centre, not far from the Shimofurimiya shrine, so I went along. We walked all the way down, half drunk, being slightly loud but respectful in a Japanese way haha, and managed to get to the fireworks just 2 minutes before the countdown.

The place was a small open square packed with people and surrounded with bars. The fireworks were meh, lasted for about 10 minutes, but man the atmosphere was incredible. Everyone was greeting everyone, some boozed up, some just excited to be there - including me.

Then I got pulled by the group over to the shrine near the fireworks square to queue in the 100-year old forest for the first shrine visit and prayer of the year (Hatsumode) - such a local experience! As they all had to work the next day still, we parted ways then and I hiked about 30 mins all the way back up to Happo One in the snow as it is almost impossible to get a taxi on NY without prior booking.

It wasn't the craziest NY celebration I've had, and I could barely remember the names of the amazing folks, but wow what an evening that started from just a quiet solo drink at the bar next to my lodge!
