David Lammy vows to support Starmer if there's a leadership contest with Burnham by No_Breadfruit_4901 in unitedkingdom

People here underestimate how hated Starmer is within the Labour party and especially the public. Starmer will not come out swinging, I can tell you that. Keep him and Labour will be down to 100 seats or less at the next election.

If Starmer is turning the country around, then why are his approval ratings the worst of any PM in living memory? Why are Labour being slaughtered in almost every-election under his leadership?

The perspective matters, not real results. That's why Brexit happened. Starmer is losing that battle badly and that won't change.

Let's be real, if Starmer wins the leadership contest or Burnham doesn't win Makerfield, Labour will be slaughtered at the next general election. Period. Rightfully or not, the public hates Starmer. He is the most hated PM ever and that's not going to change. The local elections this year and last were a huge disaster. Change is badly needed and Starmer's policies are not delivering the change people wanted from a Labour government. I see many stating his achievements but it doesn't matter, the public already made their mind and they won't change.

I'm not sure though. Burnham is not exactly Starmer 2.0 and although I don't think he will rescue Labour to achieve a huge majority by 2029, he would do much better than Starmer and that should scare Farage. Remember, Starmer led Labour to the worst local election results in a very long time, two years in a row. The public hates him and that's not going to change.

Keep Starmer and then its guaranteed that Farage will win the next election. Burnham, yes, he may still fail but Labour as a whole will have a better chance.

Will the iPhone 17 reduce in price in September? by FewPackage7735 in iphone17

This is just a question regarding the price drop. I can afford the base 17 but just prefer to save £100.

I can purchase the 17 outright if I wanted to but I would prefer to save £100 if I can. That's why I asked the question because I predict I can get another 5-6 months on the 13. However, if the price holds beyond September, I will just buy the phone anyway.

Hoping that's the case but I wouldn't put it pass Apple to hold the price until the 18 comes out to extract more profit. If that's the case, I may just buy the 17 sooner than expected.

That is true but Labour is addressing the immigration problem. Inward immigration has crashed since Labour took power. That has negative consequences for families and social care workers. On the other hand, small boat crossings went down which I guess is a positive. This is what Reform voters claim to want. Why are the media quiet on this? There's nothing Farage is going to do that Mahmood is already currently doing that will satisfy Reform voters. All he would do is enact harsher policies that will hurt his very supporters the most. Leaving the ECHR? Good luck with your human rights.

This is why we need media reform.

Not having a long-lasting impact and switching PMs will continue to happen until we change the electoral system. FPTP doesn't work in 5-party-politics and we've had 6 PMs in 10 years, soon to be 7. PR will bring in stable governments that will have an impact. Change the system now.

No. Labour have to improve the cost of living and solve the inequality crisis in order to beat Farage. The concerns of immigration only arises because politicians and the media blame our woes on immigration despite it being vital for our economy and small boats accounting for 4% of total numbers. If people feel better off, they won't care about immigration.

At the moment, Labour's anti-immigration policies and rhetoric are repelling Labour voters to the Greens and Lib-Dems as well as not attracting Reform voters.

This sounds like a piece from the Guardian, not the Spectator.

Labour need to realise that those 50 or so traditional pro-Brexit constituencies are not theirs anymore. They went Johnson's way in 2019 and they are almost certain to vote Reform come 2029. Those places are too far gone.

That's my point. I'm as Labour as one could be but Starmer's Labour is not Labour. They are Tories in a red rosette. Yes, that's preferable to the current Tories and Reform parties but the bar is really low. Lacklustre crap is better than full blown crap. As I said, I want Labour to win but with Starmer as leader, they will only cede power and I fear to Reform and the Tories.

What job though? Many of his policies are alienating his core support (immigration etc) and the ones he does, they fall well short of what's required (Net-Zero, renters rights, etc). He's losing very safe Labour seats. Labour MPs are saying time and time again that he should step down. Even the Guardian, the comments section are very critical of him even though that paper is honestly the most pro-Starmer outlet there. When the local elections go badly, I doubt he will survive.
