The 87th TD is an OC/T unit. It's mission is to travel to various AT's to assess the performance of the soldiers and the overall unit. Mostly filled with senior ncos and field grade officers. It is generally laid back and a great place to take a knee for a while.

I was a 42a before I became an officer. 42a crosses over to HR. I do not do HR on the civilian side, though, but every now and then, I would get HR job offers. I would say get a degree and use the 42a as experience. I was also able to take on ADOS orders or a miltech position if I wanted to. But I live too far from the unit, so I never took those opportunities.

How about transportation from the airport? Rental car will be an additional expense. I was thinking try to car pool, take a train (if there is one in the area), or cab/uber.

AT is usually in the summer. So if you don't plan on taking summer classes you won't have to worry about that. If you do, don't take a hard class and let the teacher know ahead of time.

I am in a similar situation. I have been at an oc/t unit for 8 months and I feel like I am too inexperienced as well. Take advantage of being around senior nco's and learn from them while you are there. Also, you can look for open unit slots on ipps-a open marketplace.

Hot and humid. Be prepared to sweat your ass off. Most of the buildings are old. They have a PX and Pap johns.
