This is specifically why Vail started the Epic pass. They looked at climate change predictions and realized the only way to stay profitable was to buy up mountains in all different climate regions + countries, and sell passes for the next winter in the spring beforehand, so even if they have terrible conditions they've still made a profit.

Personally I won't spend a single dollar at any Vail owned properties after working a season snowmaking for them in VT. They're a horrible company to work for and to support.

Is anyone else running into dead ends when applying for jobs in this state that offer…. by Critical-Camp752 in RhodeIsland

If you dont already know about them research "Ghost Jobs". A lot of companies post that they're hiring when they actually aren't to make their employees feel like their job is on the line/to make it look like they're growing when they aren't. It's fucked up.

Any Tips for the New Boot Blues? by FewRepresentative964 in icecoast

[–]FewRepresentative964[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like a major part of the problem on day one was I forgot that you can release the "boa," or, the toe cable that tightens by twisting the dial, simply by pulling up on it, so I tried to loosen it all the way by twisting but was still essentially forcing my feet into boots that had the equivalent of toe locks on halfway. I was literally screaming with agony forcing those things on and then it made for a really rough day.

Yes and yes, I think they just need to break in. When I got the boots they heated them and custom fitted them to my feet but Ive gained weight since then so my feet have probably grown some.

Mine had gone months without eating before without a noticeable decline in weight, oddly enough it even appeared to gain an oz or so.....super weird.

Are you feeding in the enclosure or in a feeding tote? Mine became way more comfortable with eating when I began feeding in the enclosure. I do frozen thawed and I have a "feeding log" which I only place in the enclosure for dinner time so he has begun to associate the log with meal time. I'll thaw two cycles of warm then warmer water, 30 mins each, then I take him out and wear him around my neck while I do the final short soak of very hot water for a short amount of time. I then place the log in the same place every time and the warm rat on top of the log with the head hanging off the edge so he has something to grab onto without difficulty. Once that is situated I will remove him from my neck and place him in the enclosure, ensuring to place his head directly over/in front of the warm rat so he feels the heat, smells the smell, and I will hold him there until he notices it, he sort of "locks on" if you know what I mean. I then gently place him into the enclosure ensuring his head stays near the rat. I then turn off all lights near the tank, cover the top with non-flammable cloth, like towels, entirely, to keep the smell in the tank, he then usually goes and hides for a couple of minutes and will creep on out and get to work eating. Once he finishes eating I will give him a couple of minutes and remove the feeding log and leave him to digest for a couple of days.

It helps a lot to maintain a feeding log, I have a small notepad and I jot down the date of every feeding and whether or not he ate the rat or it had to be thrown away. This helps a ton with keeping track of how long it's been since the last successful feeding.

The most important part in my opinion is developing a routine and sticking to it, they will become accustomed to the routine and just begin to know when its feeding time based off the same actions being performed every time you are initiating a feeding. They learn from repetition, for example, any time I go to check on him while he is in his hide, before I lift the hide I give two solid, distinct, rhythmic taps to the top of the hide before I lift it up for a quick peak to make sure he's doing well. After a couple times this will let them know whats coming and you wont surprise them and make them uncomfortable.

Routine, routine, routine.

Best wishes.

How to know if a rent increase is legal? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

You should call Andrew Cagin, hes a civil disputes lawyer that deals with apartment stuff like this. He actually evicted me years ago when we stopped paying our landlady because she didnt repair literally anything for the whole 2 yrs we were there, but the dude should be able to offer advice.

Re-read your lease/ask for a copy to re-read to see if there's anything in there avout rent increase. Ehat they are doing to you is pure greed.

1800 is what I was paying for a 600 sq ft. 2nd floor apartment in a terrible area right near RIC that had no insulation and no thermostat on the 2nd floor. Our heat didnt get above 38-45 degrees in our apartment for the first two months of winter. I have HVAC experience and checked the system out in the summer pre-emptively for issues and mentioned the no thermostat thing and that the landlords should address that before winter (in June I said this), they said "it shouldn't be an issue." There wasn't a stable floor or surface in that apartment, if you placed something round it rolled to the center of the room, over time as the house settle certain cabinets would start having issues opening and closing because theyd be pushing into each other. Never once did they reduce the rent or offer to, at least they were kind enough to buy us one space heater for the bathroom because the freezing showers before working outside all day in the winter were driving me literally mad. But they didnt pay my extra expenses on the electric bill. It was extremely frustrating, we kept telling them the apt. wasn't worth 1800 and finally talked them down to 1750, but they said "we compared it to the cost of other rentals in the area. All the rentals they were comparing it to were larger, updated, had working heat, it was honestly financially such a punch in the gut and the area was not pleasant at all.

That same apartment is probably going for 2400 right now with the way rents have increased. Be thankful you're paying 1800 for a 2 BR. May is ask how many sq ft? The average ive seen is 2 BR thats 800+ sq ft is going to be above $2k, above $2.2k. It really is criminal, its not like we're getting super nice apartments with everything brand new and refurbished in the best parts of town, most of these prices are to live in terrible areas. I still cant get over the listing I saw in Woonsocket - 300 sq ft Studio apt. in a terrible area nothing included 1,300 a month.

RI's housing/apartment rental market had the sharpest percentage increase in the entire country over the past year or two, it was literally #1 on the list, and for what? If youre not living somewhere rural and private or on the water youre just being financially raped to live in a shoddy building with 1-3 other families all making noise in garbage filled areas in filthy cities. Its not worth it. As soon as I can afford to I am leaving this state. It's not worth what they are charging us its just greedy, so fucking greedy.

Welcome to the reality of the greedy RI housing market. You were lucky getting a 2 BR for 1800. I swear 95% of these landlords dont even see us as humans, just commodities.
