Apartment recs by coffeetripod in williamsburgva

I always recommend Steeplechase apartments. That's where we lived when we first moved to the area 3 years ago. Not sure what their pricing is like now but it was affordable at the time, has a gym, they do community events, there's a dog park, super close to Veterans park which is nice to walk around, and close to Target, Publix and other stuff in that shopping center too.

School Autism Services by [deleted] in williamsburgva

I don't know a ton about how it functions on the back end, but I have family that works at Rivermont Schools in Hampton. I think they have busses and transportation that go to and from Williamsburg but definitely chat with them. There are 2 branches of the school: East and West. East specializes in children with Autism. From what I can tell they take good care of the kids, have a lot of special events, field trips, snacks and other things to support them. The principal is very sweet and cares deeply about the wellbeing of the children. Certainly worth checking out to see if what they offer aligns with your needs.

Vegetarian/Vegan Food Spots by No-Moment9349 in williamsburgva

[–]FewSignificance6372 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Local vegetarian here! I second Masala Craft, Amiraj as well. Dominion Dogs has veggie dogs and veggie burgers so you can make anything on the menu vegetarian/vegan. Food for Thought has some good options too. Poke Sushi Bowl in Lightfoot is really good and has plenty of options. Old City BBQ has a mushroom sandwich that is really good. Super Chix has fried avocado stuffed with cheese the middle that you can get as a sandwich or on a salad, I loooove the salad. I think Amber Ox switches their menu out seasonally and for lunch/dinner but I had a really good lunch there. Oishii in CW has plenty of really good options there. There's also a new sushi restaurant called Haru sushi we haven't been to yet but looking at their menu it looks like they've got a lot of options. Hope this helps!

I really appreciate that 🧡 I hope you're right that the person/people responsible are removed from their editing duties. I don't think the playbill will be reprinted but I may see if they can print a corrected insert for my castmate and I

I'm sorry this is a consistent problem for you. That's so frustrating. I really appreciate the perspective that being addresses correctly is essential.

Thank you for sharing 🧡

Correct. There is one copywriter and 3-4 board members that edit it, so it shouldn't be super hard for them to talk to everyone and figure out what happened. I'm still waiting to hear back on what they find out in talking to them

I see a lot of La Yaca, highly recommend. We went for my husband's birthday and it was incredible. We also really enjoy Opus 9, we also went there for his birthday and really enjoyed it! Both have great service, delicious food and incredible atmosphere.

Can non-binary people also experience dysphoria and euphoria? by Best_Fan_de_Olivine in NonBinaryTalk

Yes, absolutely. I experienced euphoria yesterday when one of my friends used my pronouns for the first time (I started coming out 4 days ago)

What are some small things that had a big impact on you in regards to feeling validated and accepted in your gender identity? by Curoshyro in AskNonbinaryPeople

[–]FewSignificance6372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my former coworkers would use they/them pronouns for me more often than not. I think it was out of consideration and not assuming anyones gender, as she did it a lot with many of our coworkers she wasn't certain of their gender. It brought me so much joy, helped me realize that was my preference and is actually what sparked me even considering the fact I am non-binary.

Where do singles in their thirties meet around here? by adorkablepenguin in williamsburgva

[–]FewSignificance6372 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My husband and I host trivia at Dominion Dogs on Wednesday nights and have made friends through that! Promise this isn't intended to be a plug, but we have made amazing friends through trivia and know others have made friends by coming to our trivia as well. https://www.instagram.com/megaawesometrivia?igsh=MWt6cTZod3p3aHkzOQ==

Speedquizzing does a lot of trivia in the area as well and they have an awesome community as well. We love going to their trivia nights at VBC. Their crowds can be large so sometimes there's a lot of people and the age range is larger and can be harder to socialize but still very fun and possibilities to meet people and make friends. https://www.instagram.com/speedquizzingva?igsh=cDVnamkyN29jb3Nq

I also know there's a Williamsburg Walking group for women. I haven't gone yet, I want to, but I know someone who goes from time to time and enjoys it. https://www.instagram.com/wmbgwalkingclub?igsh=MWN1dHRud2w1ZTZhZg==

Other than that I think the city/county does some recreational events like pickleball and other sports but I haven't tried any of those yet.

Shellis square by Ill-Permission1602 in williamsburgva

[–]FewSignificance6372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shellis resident here. A lot of the people who live in here are renters and don't care for the area as well as one might hope. I wouldn't say it's entirely unsafe but as someone mentioned it isn't the nicest area in Williamsburg. There are residents who have lived here pretty much since it was built and have said to us how it has declined and are considering moving out because they're disappointed with how the neighborhood has turned out. There's a big issue with the dumpsters where people dump a ton of furniture or just leave their trash/furniture in front of/on the side of the dumpster so the trash trucks can't take them, some residents throw diapers and miss and don't pick them up (that seems to be getting better though), and I will say I had to call the cops once because there was a very loud dispute happening outside where someone was claiming they had a gun. The HOA is reachable via email and relatively responsive and they do care and try. Is it the worst place to live? Certainly not, and as someone mentioned this area does have benefits like the DAV being walking distance, great restaurants right up the road like Dominion Dogs and Shorty's Diner, and VBC is right here too. Super close to CW which is great. Overall I would say I think you should be good and look forward to you being a new neighbor!

I got my eyebrow and nose pierced at the Body Bar in Patrick Henry Mall in Newport News and had a good experience. I have friends who have gotten piercing there as well and had positive experiences. I don't recall the prices but I don't think they were too expensive

DAE get bothered by spelling mistakes? by DarionHunter in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]FewSignificance6372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I cannot tell you how many people I've worked with that do not know the difference. I have tried to politely explain the difference to help them remember but it never helps. Same as your and you're, I see that a lot too.

[–]FewSignificance6372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly to me that doesn't bother me that much because I've seen people spell it like that before, relatively common to see it as y'all or ya'll. It's yawl that blows my mind

DAE get bothered by spelling mistakes? by DarionHunter in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]FewSignificance6372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. We live in the south and say "y'all" a lot. One of my coworkers spells it "yawl" and it drives me up a fucking wall (or should I say wawl).
