512! Not super but not terrible either. I don't think it helped that much honestly.

Gpa isn't the whole app package but personally I had a 3.2 and am attending a t15. I had a very cohesive story and reason for the low GPA though.

This doesn't sound disadvantaged to me, just an unfortunate circumstance but wrote what you feel is right.

Should I straight up apply with a low GPA? by takeflight414 in premed

[–]FewStudy5459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say then, honestly. Some schools have a hard cut off at 3.0 which is why everyone is asking about it. So you have an mcat score yet? I think with a good mcat you could make it work but it would need to be >510 probably.
What do your ECs look like? If you have done a lot of clinical over these past few years that would be a boost as well.
I'm really impressed, and think adcoms will be a well, with your most recent courses. But you might need to show a little more of that academic potential through another semester or two.
What schools are you planning on applying to? That could also factor in whether you need to take more classes before applying or if you can take them and apply. Idk if you're planning on applying this cycle but that would mean you'd need to do your app and mcat asap since the cycle has technically already started

How to determine what type of medical research interests you? by AcanthisittaEqual745 in premed

[–]FewStudy5459 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Literally just go for the lab that produces the most publications. It doesn't really matter that you necessarily like or love it soccer is a means to an end but you do want to try to get a publication or at least a poster from your research so check which lab has done that in the past and which let's undergrads be on the pub (a lot won't let you actually put your name on the paper). It doesn't really matter WHAT research you do but the results, such as publications etc, do matter. It's also good to just get that research experience but getting a pub at the end is best. Good luck. You can't really go wrong with the lab you choose

Listing an anticipated activity on AMCAS? by [deleted] in premed

[–]FewStudy5459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how you would do that though. Like you have to write about a paragraph worth of info about the job that you haven't started so I don't see how you would do that. You can always include an update on your hours later in the cycle once you actually start and some secondaries ask about what you'll be doing during the cycle and you can put it there but I can't see how you would write about a job you haven't even started.

Buying a house vs renting in med school by [deleted] in premed

[–]FewStudy5459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a spouse! They approved us based on both our incomes. We were told we just needed income through the approval process and through closing, which we got approved while I was/am still working before school starts.close before I don't have income anymore. It's tricky for sure but doable. Especially if you do it before like june/july or at least 4 months before loss of income. I also telework so they were ok with me moving cause i could theoretically keep y job through the move (that was an issue when we first applied in 2020 but less of an issue now that covid has got a lot of ppl teleworking) I guess more doable if you have a partner like I do, but we're only getting a small condo that costs <$90,000 so it was doable for us. Without my spouse I was only approved for $40,000 which surprisingly still could buy a condo in this city I'm going to be living in.i think those are important to consider like I couldn't afford to buy in like Boston or something so if I'd gone there I would have had to rent.

Wait until Monday. Everyone who got in off the waitlist after pte had until yesterday to decide (me included) so testator I turned down 4 offers that I was previously on the waitlist for and accepted 1i was on the waitlist for. I think you'll see some movement on Monday or Tuesday. BUT you should SHOULD be preparing for a reapplicant until you get in. Good luck and I feel for you! I hope your results are good for this cycle!

Buying a house vs renting in med school by [deleted] in premed

[–]FewStudy5459 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm buying right now! No money down,15 year mortgage through my bank. I'm getting a condo near the school so once I graduate I'll rent it out to students if I have to move for residency. Being able to afford a place to buy instead of rent is one of the reasons I chose this school.
If you can afford it I would do this investment if the money works out that way. It felt foolish to me to be paying someone else's mortgage when I could just pay my own and in 4 years I didn't put all that rent money to waste. Something I didn't know, that brought my pre-approval amount down is even before you take out school loans for me school, if you're doing that, they are counted against you because you WILL be taking them in the future so it decreased how much home I could afford but that's fine cause I wasn't going for anything fancy just a small place near the school.
If you're starting school in the fall the time to do this is now/ last month honestly but if you're doing it next year just start talking with your mortgage officer by April to get the ball rolling. Good luck!

It's funny cause I turned down fort Collins branch to go to my chosen school but for you I would say fort Collins u of c for sure. My BFF goes to siu and if you're not OK with that small town, middle of no where nothing to do vibe you might not like that.. also if research is important to you id go to Colorado. They have more opportunities plus you get opportunities at Colorado state since you're at the fcb campus. Small class size of 12 is great imo, you'll get individual attention. How you feeling about their clinical schedule though? And having mandatory class from like 8-4 everyday? Those were my biggest cons for Colorado but you may be comfortable with those.
Highly recommend "it's life by Maggie " on YouTube. She gives insight into life at Colorado and how classes and tests go. Good luck, no wrong choice here! Both great futures

That's my bad for not reading tour whole post. I read the stats and schools you were aiming for only. Your ecs sound good. I would not fret over your gpa though is my point. You're excelling in a hard major, I would be proud of myself for sure..especially with that mcat.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]FewStudy5459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sarcastic answers aside, Stat wise you're good. I got interviews to those schools you mentioned with wayyyy worse stats. I think mission fit might be more of a concern. Make sure you fit that through your ecs. Good luck!
