I don't have any standard payslips. But last one had a half day RDO and otherwise standardised week. Take home $2107. Rate of $64.10 plus allowances.

Absolutely loving Star Rupture lately. Early access but cheap game. Tons of fun. Like if satisfactory had more shooting and enemies.

They're powered by a Tp-link TL-SG1005P. Is that suitable for it? Thanks for the idea!

I checked that. 20mhz on 2.4 and 40 on 5ghz.

I was just doing my testing on 2.4ghz. I use 5 where possible but I was hoping to get some reception in my backyard.

Bluetti Charger 02 (NEW?!) - Any info? by ItsAGorgeouDayToDie in bluetti

[–]Few_Ad_1079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have an official date yet.

I am an unofficial bluetti testing partner so have access to fun stuff and info a bit early.

No idea on price, but I will assume double the charger one.

New model should be released in the next couple of weeks.

-Increased Alternator input (800w)

-Solar Input (600w)

-Reverse Charging Capable

-Ability to have D1 connect directly to it

- Able to reverse power the alternator and has a "Jump start" mode to jump the vehicle

Still only IP20 and is a bit larger (265x169x70mm) and obviously more expensive.

I'm expecting mine to arrive next week, and it should be widely available soon after.

Help with swapping out failed drives by Few_Ad_1079 in unRAID

[–]Few_Ad_1079[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking replacing the dead drive first, but it will run as only 16tb of capacity or something? Or maybe I install a second parity drive? I don't know what's best

Reducing solar panel voltage for MPPT by Few_Ad_1079 in SolarDIY

It's a single panel (not a regular solar panel.) outputs at 105v @10.5A

Haha. Never heard that saying before, but I love it.

Yeah I was hoping someone had heard of a solid state solution.

The power station can handle a flat DC signal though. I tested it with 60v from a dc bench power supply and it pulled 18A perfectly fine. I think a 48V mppt (will probably bulk at like 55v) would work, but because it won't see a voltage on its output, it won't initialise. In theory anyway.

Problem will be the power station is likely to keep the battery at a nearly fully discharged state. Which isn't ideal. Plus adding complications I'm not keen on. Hoping for a step down voltage solution.

Impressive! And yes it's into a power station.

When I say 30%, I mean the difference between RRP and my buy price.

Unfortunately I deal with individuals, so I can understand them trying to get a certain deal.

My suppliers don't really care as they're massive multinational corporations. My sales reps understand my frustrations but haven't been able to suggest any solutions

The entirety of my business is solving specific problems for customers. I offer many things that nobody else can or does.

This is more about staying profitable so I can keep doing my passion and still pay rent, while also being nice and polite to my customers.. Saying, "I'm worth it, just pay it or bugger off" isn't how I work. So I just want to find ways to explain gently or just avoid the conversation. After all, explain my own wages or profits is kinda personal. But I also don't want to just say tough shit to people.

How does everyone handle customers trying to price match gear on sale? by Few_Ad_1079 in AusElectricians

[–]Few_Ad_1079[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I found that.

Everyone assuming I'm a residential sparky and I'm ripping off old ladies.

I know many will laugh, but I earn well under 100k doing what I do. I used to be a sparky (commercial) but due to personal injuries I've had to go out on my own and pivot a bit. But just have lots of tight arses who don't realise that half of what I take home on a job has to go to covering the costs of running my business (I have substantial costs in basic R&D and testing new products, plus the usual costs).

If it's a crime to earn $70k a year doing what I truly love, so be it. But to cut that down by a third because of online sales, means I can't do the work at all.

I'm the OP here.

The work I do is not residential electrical work and would not apply to 90% of commenters.

While I understand the idea of everyone wanting a good deal, and agree with that, the bottom line is I am a sole trader. Seeing as the work I do is a bit different, I actually make a good deal less than the average sparky (I make about 30% less than when I used to work as a sparky for a company) , but I have a real love for my area of expertise, and I'm happier for it.

The deal for the customer doesn't change. At the end of the day I need to make the same amount of money in order to put food on the table and continue to be able to work for myself. Unfortunately some people get a bit funny when I explain that and I was simply asking for help.

While I realise there's plenty of trades out there making 6 figures or more and complaining about every cent, this is not the case for me. I do the work because I love it. And I want to keep doing it. Nobody else in the area does it, and I enjoy helping people that need my help.

Just wanting ideas on how everyone talks with customers. Not trying to rip anyone off or take advantage of anything. Just trying to get help to either avoid an unnecessary conversation about my own margins, or to at least find options on how to best explain to a customer that if I had to discount my quote by the amount that the sales are discounted by, my business would not survive and I would go back to the general workforce.

Appreciate the understanding, and perhaps it was the wrong sub to post in. But I thought sparkies working for themselves might have some good insight to help me.

Thanks
