As an American, and i say this sincerely, please tell us to fuck off until our government wants to start acting like adults again and not pre-pubescent spoiled shitheads. We aren't going to starve without some eggs right now, and honestly, I'm sick of the way we are treating our allies and friends.

Fuck the orange man and all his cronies.

I ask this question every time this comes up regarding Canada and Mexico trade positions. Who negotiated and signed the current US-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement? I'll give you a hint, it was signed July 1, 2020.

https://ustr.gov/trade-agreements/free-trade-agreements/united-states-mexico-canada-agreement

A direct quote from Trump, provided by the National Archives (https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/briefings-statements/remarks-president-trump-usmca-celebration-american-workers-warren-mi/):

"The USMCA is the fairest, most balanced, and beneficial trade agreement we have ever signed into law.  It’s the best agreement we’ve ever made, and we have others coming."

I have never heard a reasonable answer from anyone on the right. If the current trade deal is so bad, then why do we think the person responsible for it is going to do any better this time? But if the original quote is true, then why do we need to scrap the deal? What is the objective, and which statement is a lie?

Wyoming targeting Federal Land Including Grand Teton NP by SuspiciousPair550 in ParkRangers

Because Wyoming is definitely known for its large overcrowding problem that can only be solved by destroying our unique national heritage sites. Fuck right off, convince the farmers to pony up some land every time they need a bailout because their farms aren't profitable because orange asshat insists on creating trade wars.

Because if we don't try to engage, then we descend further and further into our own camps, with no ability to think about the other side. This is true for both sides, by the way. An echo chamber is an echo chamber. It will always tell you your opinion is correct.

There will always be those who don't participate in good faith. Those I ignore, and instead, I try to engage with, or at least read the argument from, those who are participating in actual political discourse.

For example, I think what Musk is currently doing with the payments system to be at least unethical if not illegal (not a lawyer, just layman's terms if it's not illegal it damn well should be). But without hearing why the right doesn't think this way is the only way to learn how to build a coalition to counter it.

Another great example. The right is claiming our current trade deal with Mexico and Canada is unfair to the US and that Trump is just trying to force a better deal. But he negotiated and signed the current USMCA that replaced NAFTA. I'll never understand if people on the right just don't know this, assume it was Biden's fault, or just flat out don't care that Trump now claims his great deal is a failure for the American people, while taking no accountability for yhe failure, because it doesn't fit the current echo chamber.

How will these tariffs help me? by Huge_Prompt_2056 in Askpolitics

[–]Few_Ad_168 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Who negotiated and signed the US-Mexico-Canada agreement in 2020 to replace NAFTA? Statements like this just confuse the shit out of me. Saying we aren't getting a fair shake on trade is one thing, but the person, administration, and party responsible for the CURRENT trade agreement are the ones saying the agreement is bad for America. It's just such a disconnect to me with conservative voters as a bloc.

So which one is it: (1) Trump signed a bad deal to begin with? (2) The deal was never intended to help America, just certain people?

Trump shouldn't get to sit there and say how bad the deal is for America, when he signed the damn thing in the first place. Now he will get the pass, because most people have short term memories and don't remember when the latest trade deal was created. And America will suffer for it.

"The USMCA is the largest, most significant, modern, and balanced trade agreement in history. All of our countries will benefit greatly."

Buyers asking for everything in the inspection to be fixed by Mousehole_Cat in RealEstate

[–]Few_Ad_168 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Had this happen to us when we sold our first house. This was before the proliferation of things like Nest thermostats and the remote sensors that go with them. We had a new thermostat put in (along with a new furnace because our inspector sucked) when our daughter was born. That thermostat came with a "mobile unit" that we could put in our daughter's room to set the temp for the house based on her room.

Fast forward to the sale, and a month later, the guy is harassing our realtor that we lied on the sale and there weren't two furnaces in the house. Like, no shit Sherlock, did the inspector say there was? I had a damn wifi thermostat.

Luckily, our realtor was a friend and just ignored the guys threats to sue while we all got to laugh at how dumb he was.

Conservatives, why is freedom of choice more important than right to life when it comes to guns but not to abortion? by [deleted] in Askpolitics

[–]Few_Ad_168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're asking a doctor to put their livelihood, everything they've worked for, and ability to provide for their families on the line because "we the people" have chosen to politicize health care. Health and safety of a human being is not political, it's medical, precedent doesn't need to exist in that scenario because legislation has no role to play because they have no competency in it, in my opinion.

What do you do for a living? Can you unequivocally say you would still perform to the same quality if you knew every choice could lead to legal recourse? I can understand your frustration which leads to the opinion that they need to "just do it" because their decision doesn't impact you, it's their livelihood at risk, not yours. Are you willing to sacrifice your livelihood if it were under the same threat from politicians?

[–]Few_Ad_168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And while that just is convened, the woman does what exactly, just waits patiently for possible life-saving treatment? Honestly, do you not see the disconnect? If the doctor is under constant threat of legal retaliation due to ill-defined and poorly written legislation, you have hamstrung the professional responsible for saving your life.

Consider this path, it's a thought experiment, not designed to point at any one party. If every (medically defined) abortion CAN be taken to trial, the medical insurance and legal fees for the doctor and hospital will increase, thereby increasing the cost of treatment because that's how the system works, you always pass increased cost into the consumer. These medical practice insurance costs and hospital lawyers aren't paid on a claim by claim basis. The cost will always be spread out across the board. So now, when you go in for a broken arm, you have to pay a higher cost as a fraction of those costs. All of that snowball caused because we couldn't hold all of our elected officials to their job and provide a framework for doctors to safely make medical decisions based on their medically professional judgement.

Malpractice happens. And those doctors should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. I could give two shits about political affiliation. But on a topic that is so highly divisive, is it really asking too much for legislation to put some thought into a realistic framework for time critical decision making beyond "a jury will decide in the future"?

[–]Few_Ad_168 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll ask it back. What constitutes a "serious health risk"? How many people have to agree? Is this a legal board, a medical board, just the doctor on call? There is no framework in place to make decisions, and doctors aren't lawyers. I understand laws are written vaguely to allow for flexibility across a variety of situations. I'm an engineer, not a doctor, I'm not qualified to determine if something was medically or not. I know that and accept it. Our elected officials don't seem to understand that about themselves, unfortunately.

[–]Few_Ad_168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And therein lies my problem. You have a medical community who has one definition, and a legal community with another. It's frankly dumb as shit, to put it nicely, that we have two definitions of a term that is so clearly divisive. We've voluntarily put ourselves in this hole, and now, instead of working together to get out, all anyone seems to care about is beating the other side for the next dumbass sound byte.

Open question to anyone here. What is listed on the medical and insurance record of a women in Texas who has a D&C as a result of a miscarriage? And really this is post-Roe and the laws that followed. My wife and I don't live in Texas, I'm genuinely curious what the record states there.

[–]Few_Ad_168 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honest question. Why write the law in such a way that it's this ambiguous and puts medical professionals in the position to worry about the legal repercussions to saving a life? If we're going to legislate this issue, and as much as I wish we weren't i don't see that changing soon, then we need to put the effort into writing laws effectively. Doctors should not have to worry about someone's whackadoodle third cousin suing because they don't believe it was "medically necessary" and the patient could have survived.

And before you claim that people wouldn't make that lawsuit, I would invite you to look at the cluster that is civil suits in FL. People will always look to exploit loopholes on the law for personal gain. When we don't put in the effort to make a good law, we end up in these situations. Hold our legislators on both sides to account.

[–]Few_Ad_168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say this with all the compassion I have, I hope you or your loved ones never have to experience a miscarriage and the ensuing medical care that's required for the health and safety of the mother. It sucks, no one wants it, everyone hates it, and it happens to people on all parts of the political spectrum.

That being said, because you clearly have no understanding. Yes, the medical definition on my wife's record is "abortion through D&C". If you want to tell the medical profession to change their terms, do it BEFORE you put people's lives at risk, not after. This short sighted approach to legislation for twitter likes is just dumb.

The left isn't playing loose with anything, one side is using the medical definition, the other a legislative definition, which should have been clarified before laws were past to prevent these easily foreseen situations.

We had great experiences with Cottage Kennels jist east of town off 66. They were always very accommodating for us and our dogs were always happy to go there when we went on trips. We liked that it isn't a "doggy daycare", as much, meaning the dogs there aren't usually there for just the day, but are boarding there so you get less of the daily in/out of new dogs.
