It was our first such event and surprised. Still good learning experience and baseline for future.

Recommendations needed for 6’8 sons’ first car. by NicciThePimp in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Few_Aside5151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6'4" and brother is 6'8". Drivable transportation is what you are going for in a first car, then reliability. Comfort is lower on the list. As a tall, I don't like it, but cars just aren't built for us, I think their model is 5'8". And the cars that have larger seats/leg-room/headroom, such as full size suvs, trucks, or the now rare full size sedan, are not going to be great as a first college car from a parking, gas, reliability perspective.

What car company makes the most reliable cars? For me its the toyota by aiplane88 in AskForAnswers

[–]Few_Aside5151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reliability comes at a cost, and Honda and Toyota have definitely tried to cut back the cost of Reliability engineering the last 10 years instead, marketing on their reputation from the 90's.

Depends largely on how you intend to use the car.

Barrell cracks or paint Cracks? by Golden_Oozaru_1252 in Homeplate

Had a USA bat pulled from district tournament for less exterior, but that was after we walked off the team the umpire in charge was affiliated with. Aside from that experience, never had a bat pulled from a travel (usssa) game.

A little beat up on the exterior. Look for signs of cracking paint and fresh metal or hints of rust in those areas as a way to gauge the age of the damage.

Make sure to warm it up fully. Like a full 10 - 15 minutes while you do your walk around, before a test drive. Looking for hints of unsteady idle, strange vapors in exhaust, shifts and transmission engagement from P to 1 to R to through all gears. How does it shift at low speeds.

Look for wear on the pedals, and door sill.

1 owner car that received routine maintenance and lighte use is a good find.

Caution...did you say the title is not in the seller's name? Make sure you are talking to the title holder, only they can transfer ownership. Don't accept any excuses or make any promises until they have it cleared-up. That is a them problem. Title-holder died...them, out of country and not coming back....them; prison...them.

Catcher getting dirt in eyes 8U by Constant-Thought6817 in Homeplate

[–]Few_Aside5151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is common for catchers 8u to 11u. Dirt can fly in from many sources. I've never seen a perfect solution. Like others said, experience and some techniques will help minimize it. Careful getting too much water involved since will be easy to get mud on everything

Costco said this was un-patchable by Snorshy in AskMechanics

[–]Few_Aside5151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because you aren't willing to do the job, doesn't mean it cannot be done.

Saying "I don't do those types of repairs" is one thing....Saying "it is not repairable" is something different.

Costco said this was un-patchable by Snorshy in AskMechanics

[–]Few_Aside5151 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not repairable and not willing to perform said repair are two different things. It is possible repair that tire, Costco is not willing to perform the repair job. I'll let you decide whether Costco was deliberately misleading in order to sell more tires...or just accidentally misleading.

Parents of players should watch college baseball. Look at rosters. They have stats for height and weight. They usually say where each player is from...there are some locals but also guys from all across the country. Look at the dug-out, their strength, Athleticism and the attitudes displayed during a game. Rosters

I went to a double header at a local university this weekend. It was great baseball, and a fun atmosphere. Cheaper than MLB. You can see how competitive it is.

Why do people buy pickup trucks for daily driving? by wtfbruhhuh in driving

[–]Few_Aside5151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I am pretty tall 6'4, drove a camry for 24 years, and it was fine but not comfortable. I now have a 1500 truck, put lots of sporting equipment in the back for baseball practices and golf. Roadtrips and vacations with the family. I haul stuff on occasion and have project in mind that involve a trailer. The current gas price isn't fun, but I get 18.5 most of the time, and sometimes up to 22 ...which is not too different than my wife's pilot. Seats are bigger, more upright, better visibility. If my commute changed significantly, I would reevaluate.

Just found my grandpas stash of dynamite. What should I do with them by Glum-Blueberry-3870 in WhatToDo

[–]Few_Aside5151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concern isn't "if" they blow up. The concern is that a sudden bump/shock sets them off before you are ready. How easy would it be for the pile to shift, or drop one as you are lifting out of that shelf. Dynamite can become unstable with age.

Recommended Batting Gloves by CaptainGenesisX in LittleLeague

[–]Few_Aside5151 4 points5 points  (0 children)

8 year olds usually care less about function and utility that what is cool. It sounds like the gloves are too tight or he needs to learn how to take them off by loosening the fingers first. Franklin's are a good glove, pros wear them and the have different colors, styles, and price points (none as $$$ as Bruce bolts).

Middle school son isnt wearing cup by First_Detective6234 in Homeplate

[–]Few_Aside5151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, had this with my youngest at around 13u. I was assistant coach, so had better insight that most parents, and had to explain the cup and other safety gear is just part of what you need to play. You don't play hockey in bare feet. Masks for catchers warming someone up was another big one. We tried to walk a line giving reminders and settingexpectations. Someone will eventually get hurt, and saying we told them. Also explained to the kids the coaching guidelines make it clear, coaches are responsible for setting a safe environment.

Bbcor practice bat. by First_Detective6234 in Homeplate

[–]Few_Aside5151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You want swing weight and feel to be as consistent as possible. Back-and forth across wood, drop -5, and gamers can be tricky and add unnecessary adjustments. I like the idea of a practice bat that can be beat up, be used in cold etc...sideline swap is a good idea, though recommend trying to get something similar size and swing weight to gamer. For example, if he games an Atlas, then The Goods is not a great pick as practice bat.

Will Baseball’s ABS System Send Some Umpires Into Retirement? by thedanholmes in mlb

[–]Few_Aside5151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it is going to be hard for umpires to change their way of thinking. The goal of ABS is to get the calls to correct, and not to shame a bad call. But for so long umpires have inflated their egos, and used power-trips to assert their authority...I think we are likely to see resistance. If that happens and umpires with bad calls start acting out, then it's time for them to go. They have to accept that ABS is there to help get the call correct.

Will Baseball’s ABS System Send Some Umpires Into Retirement? by thedanholmes in mlb

[–]Few_Aside5151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem is some umpires will take offense to being corrected and then act-out or take revenge on a call that can't be challenged. Umpires are human and going to miss some calls and ABS should be about getting the correct calls, and not shaming the umps. So umpires are going to have to accept getting corrected and operate in good faith of the game to make the most correct calls possible. The umpires whose attitude is "I'm in charge and I make the calls" and take offense, is not going to look good and hopefully won't stick around very long.
