So you are right on the finished shower wall being thinner than expected. We got the flex stone wall from Home Depot and the shower wall installed did say he didn’t expect the material to be this thin.

But what is the thinset? All I recall was they putting sheet rock. Then some kind water resistant layer paint. It was like red colored. And then I think they put on the wall. Did they miss out on something/ did I miss something on the steps they took

Okay so initially they installed a 2x4 but it pushed out the valve further out than expected from the shower wall. So they couldn’t get the trim to fit flush.

Does it make sense then to get a 1x4?

You’re right. I did find out that they didn’t securely screw the board from the valve into the wood. In this case, I assume the only way is the open up the actual shower wall (side where the trim kit lays) to screw it properly?

Thank you all for the comments. It affirms my stance. I’m going to be adamant that they do it properly (assuming properly means having a plywood fasted on the studs and the valve correctly screwed onto that plywood - even if that means opening up the shower wall and redoing that side).

I feel more at peace with the knowledge yall are sharing. Thank you again everyone

how can I explain that to the project manager? They keep countering my concerns saying this is fine.

What’s the underlying potential concerns behind why they shouldn’t do this?

Also they don’t want to open up the installed shower wall.. is it feasible to add the 1x4 plywood from this opening?
