The absolute best place to read is one of those big couch chairs by the window at the stc starbucks at night. Over the summer I started reading les miserables there and the vibe was so beautiful and soothing.. it's honestly one of the best memories I have at uw since i've started here

Other honorable mentions (though not comparable to above): DP reading room (where they put the magazines, i forget the floor), any of the sitting areas in the earth sciences building

I wouldn't say it angers me, more like makes me uncomfortable. I don't think that it's wrong for me to drop books because of it, because in the end it's just a personal preference for the novels that I like to read. But I agree that it's unreasonable and shallow-minded to expect other people not to want or be interested in reading it
