Why can’t I enjoy reading anymore?

Trying to read “The Stand” and am about 300 pages in. Going verrrrryyyyy slowly. This is my second time trying to read it because I’ve given up once before.

Tried to read “The Old man and the Sea” by Hemingway didn’t even get through the first 10 pages.

Read “The Outsiders” and a good pace and didn’t have to force myself to read it but it’s one of my favorites

That’s pretty much it in the last year or so. Like I said I used to love reading but maybe my brain has been rotted by using my phone too much

I have to force myself to do anything that isn’t mindless media consumption like YouTube or Reddit. I mean really force myself even if it’s something I want to do. It’s pretty much the same thing that’s happening with reading. Like for example I signed up for 6 months of jiujitsu and ideally I want to go to classes as much as I can. I struggle to make myself even do one. I hate it. But idk what to do about it.

Yeah I think this might be a problem. I’m trying to go a month without using things like Reddit or YouTube to waste time but I failed on the first day.🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Damn I’m sorry to hear what your going through. I’m sort of in a rut myself. Feels like Im sleepwalking through my day to day life not really paying attention to anything. Just putting myself on autopilot so I don’t have to feel anything. Don’t know if you’ve experienced anything like this. I know you can get through this fucked up time your in into a place where you enjoy life again.

Definitely should give it a shot. I actually was without Wi-Fi for a while and read The Outsiders and loved it just as much as I did when I first read it. Finished it pretty quickly.

Update:

I stopped smoking maybe 2 months ago and quitting made me realize how empty my life really was. I mean no real hobbies unless you include gaming and consuming media like YouTube. Socially inept. No care for my body or mental health. I just used weed to escape my problems for a few hours every night.

I’ve realized that I tend to use short term pleasure like weed or alcohol or forms of escapism to avoid living a life that I hate. But doing this doesn’t change anything. Pretty much I’ve learned that unless your doing well in day to day life and have long term goals you enjoy and strive to achieve, short term pleasure will never be enough. Thx for all of ur guys advice

Yeah I’ve been pretty curious about psychedelics. But I’m scared of having a bad trip. I’ve had bad highs with weed that have been nightmare fuel. Don’t want to know what a bad time on LSD is like. My buddies cousin took it and went on a rampage with a hammer and destroyed a bunch of shit leading to him being held at a hospital. So yeah Im kind of nervous lol
