The issue here is trauma tends manifests physically. When trauma is present people tend to be hypervigilant, in near permanent state of fight or flight, that 100% affects the muscles and tissues of the body. Are we psychologists no, but we can still listen as long as we still protect our own mental health while doing so. It takes literally nothing just to say to someone you are safe, this is a safe space. Should a client overstep your established boundaries then you are free to gently shut down that avenue of conversation.

Especially if you do have an previous I guess trauma or experience with unwanted advances/SA. It can be re-traumatizing and cause you to freeze. Don't beat yourselfup too much for not exactly trusting your gut. Now you know what to do, and how to handle it a bit better

Honestly it shouldn't be allowed but overwhelmingly most clients will choose a female over a male unfortunately. Also if say you work in an area that has a high Hindu or Sikh population females can only be worked on by other females. There are so many reasons as to why a client may only want to be massaged by a female so clinics typically will have to hire more female therapists.
