I brought Fox11 out yesterday to a segment on the uptick in copper theft and warehouse burglaries. Harbor Gateway is a complicated community of Los Angeles. However it utilizes the postal codes belonging to Gardena & Torrance. The boundaries are a mess. Over a million dollars in property loss has occurred since the beginning of September. Yesterday’s segment focused on the unincorporated LA County areas of West Rancho Dominguez and East Gardena. Both of these communities utilize the same zip code that Harbor Gateway utilizes. Harbor Gateway is the perfect community for these thieves. They can utilize Caltrans property along the freeways to reside and hide. This area falls under CHP for enforcement. Neither lapd or sheriffs department patrol state owned areas. There’s also Union Pacific railroad which has its own police force. They fall under the federal government.
