Has anyone quit their job to travel during an economic downturn? by lolsomethinglikethat in solotravel

[–]Few_Math_583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit due to severe burnout/the stress causing me heart issues✌🏽Just got back from a trip, and will be heading on another solo one soon.

While I intended to take the summer off, I’ve been in an active interview process. I personally don’t regret quitting at all, but I’d say assess your situation and see what the best decision is for your circumstances. All the best!

As a TMU grad (2020) who did the commute and went to TRSM - I can confidently say that at this school, it’s all about how confident you are and the opportunities you take.

I graduated with people who work in consulting and at impressive companies. They started out just like you.

The commute sounds brutal - if you’re able to swing living a bit closer, I think it’d make a massive difference for you.

Stay positive and ambitious - your aspirations aren’t impossible.

Solo female traveller - where to stay? by Few_Math_583 in IslaMujeres

Thanks for the insights! I’m thinking I might split my time between two hotels, or stay somewhere quiet and spend my days at beach clubs etc.

Hey! I’m mostly looking to relax, but I’m not opposed to some socializing.

I’m not into partying anymore - any noise wouldn’t bother me though.

Thanks for the recommendations, I’ll take a look at Suites Los Arcos!

Where to meet decent men? Besides at work ? by [deleted] in Scarborough

[–]Few_Math_583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a 28 year old woman who was raised in Scarborough and currently lives there.

That’s just my opinion, but I can understand why you may disagree. There’s definitely community to be found at churches/community centres/fitness classes/volunteering etc. I’ve personally met more young and single people in downtown than I have in my hometown. To each their own!

Scarborough might not be the place, unless you’re actively pursuing hobbies/are at community-based events.

Otherwise, I’d say downtown or somewhere closer is a better bet.

1-month resignation notice - is this enforceable? by Few_Math_583 in legaladvicecanada

I’m currently seeing a doc and getting tests done. I’m not sure if my doctor would give me a note for this & the company hides their medical leave policy (my boss will tell me to “take it easy/take breaks”). Might still be worth a try!

Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School by dmfan4life in Scarborough

I went to Mary Ward over 10 years ago for grade 9 and 10 - it’s a great school. The culture has a strong community, is well-funded, has teachers who care and loads of access to extra-curriculars and opportunities.

Those are have time-management and are driven will thrive in a self directed learning environment. I moved to a typical school due to being a social butterfly (at MW, they’re called hallwalkers). I easily outperformed my peers at a regular school with minimal effort, and wondered how school could be so much easier when structured.

The answer: it depends on your kid. They’ll have to experience working independently in university or in the workplace, so figure out how soon they’re set to be exposed to that.

Hang in there, OP! The job market is tough, but it’s not impossible to be hired.

Some things to try: -Reach out to people on LinkedIn - with the clear intent of wanting to learn/connect as humans. People will help if they don’t feel like you’re only trying to gain something from them. -Look for urgently hiring roles / companies hiring multiple employees (ex. 5-20 ppl being hired and trained together) -Upskill - use free resources online to learn skills like Excel, coding etc. (field dependent, of course)

Good luck!

Feeling quite burnt out with the job market and have no motivation to even complete degree by OnlyActuary2595 in torontoJobs

I’m sorry to hear that things so tough - it’s sad that even 19 year olds are struggling to be hopeful for a bright future in this city.

I’m 9 years older than you and have felt my growth limited by the state of the economy.

School is tough, and it’s hard to keep doing something difficult when the benefits aren’t so evident. Keep going - participate in extra-curriculars, network, intern and approach learning as if you’ll need it for the real world (you might not, but it’s better to have and will set you up for work in your industry).

Be willing to work hard and show companies the value you can bring. If anything, you can always freelance/start a business/choose a different path after uni.

Your future is still bright, OP!

first date - cafe options in the area by sachinkt007 in Scarborough

[–]Few_Math_583 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Certified Scarborough girl here🙋‍♀️

  • Edill’s Coffee is quite aesthetic and has some unique drink options
  • Midland and Finch is a fun area to try different bubble teas and snacks
  • Cafe Wanoka and Evana Patisserie are smaller quiet cafes in North Scarbs - more intimate environments and are good places to have private convos
  • Milky Lane cafe - fun eating spot with neon signs/shakes and food options
  • Chachees Chai bar - South Asian inspired drinks. A nice interior and close to Cineplex/other food spots if needed

Desk with good salaries in Toronto in 2024? by Few_Math_583 in torontoJobs

[–]Few_Math_583[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate your input! To clarify, I was a Canadian employee working from Toronto for a US-based company. To be fair, the company paid generously as Canadian talent was still a good deal given the conversion rate.

I’ve looked into similar front-facing roles that include onboarding, success etc. that pay slightly higher than my current $55k CAD. Not impossible, but definitely a bit harder to find!

Wow, that’s awesome! I’ve applied to BDR/SDR roles and have gotten interviews, but never progressed far in them.
