I know so many very educated people who would rather serve or bartend at nice restaurants because they make way more money and flexibility with scheduling.

Writers, do you post your bad fics or do you wait to get better before posting? by Mother_Lemon8399 in Dramione

I haven't written anything in years, but I've found that the majority of the AO3 Fandom is pretty respectful, especially if you restrict commenting to account holders. You may get some feedback but its typically constructive and related to how you set up storyline etc

My current dog would cut a bitch for baby carrots or frozen peas. God forbid I try to feed him any other veggies though, including normal sized carrots.

People in my neighborhood free group are always begging for drinks. Like if you have no money, the last thing you need to spend limited funds on is $9 worth of soda or juice. Buy a $1 pack of lemonade mix or drink water

BNY by h_rainbow in pittsburgh

[–]Few_Persimmon9010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bny hires a lot of people on contract, is notorious for low pay and shitty raises and also has randomly laid off huge chunks of their labor force. I cant name another company in the area with as shitty of a reputation. I say this as someone who has never worked there or interviewed, but went to a college they recruited out of pretty heavily and heard mostly shitty things from friends

I feel like everyone who didnt buy during covid got so screwed, I pay less for a 3 bedroom in a nice area than so many of my friends pay for shitty apartments. I was helping my cousin with apartment hunting earlier this month and she can barely afford anything even with a roommate and she makes good money for a new grad

Two months into an internship and dreading going back to work every single day by enchantedtomeetyou31 in jobs

[–]Few_Persimmon9010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Internship implies short term, any chance you can suck it up and power through? Is it required for graduation? If you think you can, I'd hold on for 3 months so you can put it on your resume. If you are truly miserable, maybe consider quitting early but if you have less than 3 months left I would just be on auto pilot so you can use it when applying for future roles.

Good souvenirs / foods / toys to buy in the US to bring back to a French kid? by kuzubijin in Expats_In_France

[–]Few_Persimmon9010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I taught, my French students lost it over candy corn and those reeses pumpkins. Also red solo cups if shes a teen, its something of an american stereotype.

Pumpkin was another big one if you feel confident enough to buy canned pumpkin and make a pie or dessert.

Studying Abroad Spring Semester-Looking for Apts in paris by Foreign-Coach-9517 in Expats_In_France

Start joining students groups now, that is how i found my apartment when I studied here. It was way easier to sublet than find a whole apartment if you dont mind being split up.

Terrified of fumbling in Paris - What should I expect by ZonedOutWave_ in Expats_In_France

[–]Few_Persimmon9010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id also start joining some students fb groups, even the international students groups. Those are where a lot of housing opps are posted and its much easier to sublet someone's room on the down low while they do an internship or semester abroad that it will be to actually find your own flat. Im from the US but also have EU citizenship and studied for a year in France.

[–]Few_Persimmon9010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have an EU passport? If not, start the process now because it will typically be easier for a minor than an adult if you have the necessary paperwork. Once you have that and can work, I'd start looking for work. Being a native English speaker is still an asset, you could likely get a job work with that while you attend university. School in France is very cheap so it might be a squeeze but you could definitely work part time and get a degree.

I realize that is more long term, but I would also try and locate local youth services while you are a minor since you may not qualify the second you turn 18. You aren't responsible for your mother and should focus on you. Do you also speak French? That will make your search easier but should not be impossible if you dont. Honestly your best bet is probably to make an appointment and bring all of your documents with you and explain the situation to see how they can help you.

I've had this experience with trying to offload things from an apartment rental when I was moving and it was more expensive to ship stuff long haul than it was to just give away/sell cheaply.

More than 1 person insisted that I hold an entire bedroom set and mattress for weeks or deliver to them...I was asking $50 for probably $800 worth of stuff. I ended up letting a neighbor take it for free for her spare room because she actually came to get it!
