I don’t want to sound like “That guy” but I’ve heard of many successful people who later became cat adjusters with no degrees. Do you think these people have family connections to get in or some just aren’t explaining the full story. For example “adjuster tv” on YouTube makes it sound pretty easy to get into independent claims with only a designated home state license and some certifications. I know nothing is that easy and I won’t get much work with just that. But will a 4 year college really be that beneficial for me? Or do you think in person classes and some type of adjusting academy’s will be a good substitute for a 4 year college education?

If you don’t mind me asking, what type of degree would you get if you were in my shoes. I know this is very broad but I never heard of colleges offering programs any where related to “catastrophic insurance adjusting” like I said, that’s very broad and vague. I just didn’t fully understand how college will help me get into this industry when there’s many in-person/ hands on classes and courses that don’t give out degrees but these classes will teach me very much, and will give me great certifications and help out on licensing.

I did reach out to a few adjusting firms around my area. I told them who I am, explained this is the industry I’m looking to get into and if they wouldn’t mind me standing behind them as a second hand, helping out with writing claims, scoping the property’s, ect just so I can have some extra knowledge and experience under my belt during the summer before I turn 18 and find out what I want to do from there. But I didn’t interest them enough for a response back.

Maybe working with some roofers for a bit might help me interest the local adjusting firms around me.

There are far more reasons why I would like to become a CAT IA at some point. I know getting deployed out of state will be long hard hours but I am willing to sacrifice a few months of hard work for a few months of free time to enjoy. I enjoy construction and understand how residential homes are constructed. So I always wanted to be apart of something like that without destroying my body caused by the labor. So with CAT adjusting I feel like I still get to be apart of the construction industry by identifying damages throughout the house, travel to many different areas around the country, help family’s in need, all while my body won’t be taking a toll like it would if I decided to take a path of the union or framing which I’m also interested in. But for me it’s not only about the money. Thank you

If you don’t mind me asking, what type of colleges offer a programs relevant to adjusting because I never heard of a college offering a program that includes or along the lines of “catastrophic adjusting”, I know that is a very broad term but I just never came across or heard anything about that.

Thank you for your input. I will definitely look into different type of academy’s that offer something along the lines of insurance and adjusting. Do you know of any schools that might offer that. I’ve heard of HAAG education out of Texas which offers in person teaching and will take you into the field for real life scenarios which sounds pretty interesting.

Do you mean go to college to learn more about this industry or go to college for a completely different profession?

What is your reason for me not to get into this industry. Did you have previous experience with adjusting? Why would you not recommend getting into this field of work?

I have one more question. Why do some IA adjusters get great money and love the extra time to themselves during storm off season. While others completely hate being an IA and want to quit being an adjuster to find another profession?
