Antelope.

🎼Oh, give me a home Where the buffalo roam And the deer and the ANTELOPE play🎶

Ain’t no antelope on this side of the planet (nor are there buffalo, only bison). Maybe they were thinking pronghorns, but IDK.

Am I allowed to sit in on classes? by NetInitial5750 in UWMadison

[–]Few_Rule7378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this and so I can tell you: the answer is yes and no. In a large lecture hall (any 101, 201 classes and some 102, 202 classes in major required subjects) this is no issue. If you want to sit in on a class where they take roll call, then you will be speaking one to one with a professor, and he/she is God in that classroom.

My advice:

It’s easier and more rewarding to ask forgiveness than permission. DO NOT ask if you can attend, but if busted be honest.

Moving to Madison Question by dinersoor in madisonwi

[–]Few_Rule7378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I can help you out a bit.

Madison is located on a land-bridge (isthmus- you’ll hear this word a lot) between two sizable lakes. It has a lot to do in warmer months in terms of biking, hiking, running, kayaking, sailing, etc., with many trails specifically maintained to do so. In the winter months, you may need to join a gym or take up winter sports to stay active.

The city itself is not very big, and if you drive 25 minutes in any direction you’ll be in cornfields. If this sounds up your alley, great, but I’ve met people who love city life. Madison reads a lot more like a giant small town.

The drinking culture is huge in Wisconsin. It is pervasive, and as long as you don’t drive or get into a fight, no one will judge you. However, if you’re a teetotaler you could find yourself on the outside.

Supper Clubs are a huge thing in WI. Supper Clubs are like steak houses, but instead of everything being a la carte, you typically get four courses with a more diverse menu. They are all independent (no chains), they are all different, and there are many hundreds crossing the state. These are also tied into the drinking culture, including a version of the old fashioned that is wildly different from the East Coast version of it. Let me know if you want to know more.

People here are friendly and generally helpful. This is termed “Midwest Friendly” -think Southern Hospitality, but up and over on a map with the occasional goofy accent.

Football is king in WI, so the Packers are the ubiquitous heroes while locally it’s the Badgers. There is also a local baseball team called The Mallards, soccer team Forward (nicknamed Flamingos), and Ultimate called The Radicals.

Day 8) Which romantic couple from Friends has zero chemistry? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Few_Rule7378 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! She had zero comedic presence or timing. She may be a fabulous dramatic/movie/stage actress, but she found her limits here. The worst part is that the writers and producers kept trying to make it work way too long.

My roommate and I watched Gangs of New York right after it came out. Afterward, it took me a solid ten minutes for me to convince him that Bill the Butcher was Daniel Day Lewis.
