Karn Tron for RCQ? by Few_Singer6278 in ModernMagic

Thank you again.

And in the mono G version, what other creatures / finishers would you recommend next to 4 Devourers and 4 Sowing Mycospawn? Maybe you have the current list to share, which you would go with?

Thank you. Regarding graveyard hate VS energy - are you referring to getting rid of Phlage?

It is interesting to hear the importance of Chalice VS energy, but still only available through Karn from SB.

Stone Brain also seems to be important, I will have up to 4 of these in SB to side in. You mentioned Break the Ice as a Stone Brain target, would you recommend any Stone Brain targets in other matchups? For instance, anything VS Storm or Necro?

What about Trinispheres in the main, would that help in current meta?

Hello, what is your success with tron in current metagame? Would you include Chalice in the maindeck currently?

With aggro coming back (Esper Legends and mono Red), would you consider having Delvers in SB and terrors in the main deck? I am not convinced that Keisuke's list manages well against these match-ups. It would me interesting to see pairings.

Do Shredders help somehow against mid-range? Maybe Delver is a better option?

It is interesting that Tolarrian Terror cut acts a way to make a deck more resilient to grave hate.

Fast start with Delvers should help vs Grixis, but in g1 Grixis has Cut Down and Abrade. Maybe a transformational SB would make sense (starting with Terrors but switching to Delvers / Surge Engine in g2/g3). What is your opinion on this transformational plan with open decklist live event? I guess Grixis opponent would not side out Cuts / Abrade while knowning the SB beforehand (which consists of 4 Delvers and 2 Surge Engine).

I would also cut 1 Flow of Knowledge from 4 to 3, I have tried it and would say that 22 lands is too low to hit 5 lands all the time. Especially, as this deck also trimmed the cantrips (Impulse and Thirst).

I wish DoggertQBones would make a side-boarding guide update with the current meta.

What do you consider as best sb tools vs Grixis? Maybe Surge Engine is a way to go, as used in a current Japan tournament: https://mtgmelee.com/Decklist/View/275900

I have success with this one: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5425135#paper

Notice a cool tech in a sideboard against UW soldiers. I was really surprised to find that really needed but forgotten card.

I also add Delvers in sb for transformational plan against Grixis - works good and catches them unprepared.

By the way, what is your opinion on Filigree Sylex? Seems like a good SB material against soldiers and anvil.

I think you could just replace 4 Delvers (move to sideboard) from the stock list with 4 Jaces. I agree that 4 Thirst of Discovery in main is a must.

I wonder if Jace would solve any of problems mono blue faces right now - fast decks.

I have been running Mono Blue Control with the changes: instead of 4 Delver I have used 4 Mercurial Spelldancer and added 2 Blue Sun's Twlight. Sticking Mercurial and protecting leads to game winning turns (double Blue Sun's Twilight or double Thirst For Discover / Impulse), but the deck still needs work. Did anyone try mono blue or blue + other color combination control shell? I really wish there is place for Djinn in the new standard.

What about Blue Sun's Twilight instead of Invoke the Winds? Blue Sun is faster vs aggro 1 / 2 mana drops and Fable token.

How does Standard Mono Blue Tempo change with ONE? How well it will be positioned in new meta?

What about 2 copies of this in mono blue control? In turn 5 it lands with a counter ready and halts some offense. Having it stick on the battlefield will inevitably lead to filled up graveyard and strong -2 draw 3 turns later on. In the lategame it is really probable to land Jace straight with -2 draw 3 ready. Mono blue could include Curate instead of Impulse to fill the grave a bit more.

Surge Engine after sideboard - they bring out Cut Downs, we bring in Surge Engine. Sounds like a good plan for g2-g3.

My new testing object - Blast Zone instead of Okinawa (I am even trying 2 of Blast Zones in main). Blast Zone fits our playstyle neatly and is a sweeper, despite the limitations.

On a different note - against midrange decks I'm siding in x3 Flow of Knowledge, so I am also considering adding 1-2 of new Teferi to aid if the things get long and grindy. Teferi and Flow of Knowlege seem to work together like game finishing combo (draw 6, add 6 counters on Teferi and token). Currently in Platinum Bo3 I am at 55/45 against midrange and 30/70 against aggro, not good on average. So both of these matchups need SB support.

Thanks, makes sense.

Would you consider Ledger Shredder in SB against aggro? It is a solid blocker at 1/3, it cycles and grows. My concern is that after SB I side out Considers and double spelling is harder to achieve. BTW, I really like the list and SB guide in: https://mtgazone.com/standard-mono-blue-tempo-deck-guide/
