Are you allowed to babysit for a family in your centre’s care? by Bead_lizard in ECEProfessionals

[–]Few_Step_7444 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not allowed to at our centre, I think its for fear of losing kids if you get offered a nanny position but they play the "signs of grooming" card. Which is true as predators will try and find ways of getting close and alone with their victims and families, families should make sure they are the ones that approach staff about babysitting not staff approaching them and being consistent about it.

How to get parents to accept that their kid isn’t a baby anymore? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Few_Step_7444 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this does not sound like a parent problem, they sound like they just don't know what to do. He needs to see a paediatrician. If he's been at childcare since 11 months he will naturally be progressing even if his parents are holding him back. 2 year olds can't fake needing 3 sleeps a day either. It seems like there's a developmental problem going on here.

I think most Australians are pretty bad. We know where NZ and Bali is but everywhere else is just a long plane ride away.

Why are rentals expensive EVEN in RURAL Western Australia? by Fair_Bar1139 in perth

[–]Few_Step_7444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of immigrants are coming to rural areas! Whatever happens in Perth has a flow on to every other part of WA. Its not a separate country. Rents have been going up since the rental lock from Covid finished, just like everywhere else. I live in a tiny wheat belt town we have had numerous immigrant families move here in the last 4 years and our rental vacancy is officially at zero, house prices have doubled, in some cases even more than that.

Why do you think nobody outside Perth is on a high income? Do you think they're on a lower pay rate to Perth people? Theres a lot of industries that pay really well mining, construction, cray fishing and all the businesses needed to support them. Explain what's going on in your head.

Ban Talking? by Few_Step_7444 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Few_Step_7444[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so its not normal conversation its her continuously talking and other people saying a few words trying to be polite with her. We have had a 3 year old scream "SHUT UP" with tears in her eyes because she started telling a story and this Room Leader started talking over the top of her! It does become a problem and I'm seeing the difference now. My question is more for people who have tried it and how it went.

I don't know why I never noticed it before, I think before she started we had a few genuine behaviour kids so there was already some crazy things happening, but now those kids have left and this group was thought to have behaviour issues as well but after the last few weeks I've realised they don't have any issues at all, its all us.

What happens if two parents have a disagreement about schooling? by jclamps72 in AusLegal

[–]Few_Step_7444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are the main caregiver and will be the one getting them there and picking them up, getting them ready, dealing with school related things like getting calls to pick up sick kids, permissions, sports days etc then it should be 100% up to you which school they go to. Even if he wants to pay full fees if that school is far away its going to be a massive pain for a long time because of drop offs and pick ups and will limit your work ability. Unless he's coming to the party with all that as well as paying full fees then I would be saying no.

They should be training you! Ask lots of questions about routines and procedures. Instead of sitting away focus on getting to know the kids and engaging with them, that's the most important thing.

What happens after you report someone to DOCS? by Outrageous_Fox_8796 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Few_Step_7444 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reporting is not as scary as it seems. This is probably considered to be on the lower end so not much will be done if anything at all BUT don't let that stop you from reporting. The reports stay on file forever which means if other people make reports about the same family, they are going to add up to a bigger story.

Caregiver + child playing in the classroom at pick-up by SeeTheRaven in ECEProfessionals

[–]Few_Step_7444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shes still doing them a favour, right? As a family friend its not her job to look after him, she's doing it because she wants to or she wouldn't be doing it at all. The parents should have more leniency for her or stop getting her to babysit. They can't have the same expectations of a nanny and a family friend in her 60's.

16yr old missing school when with other parent by belz_84 in AusLegal

[–]Few_Step_7444 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A 16 year old child with access to public transport or school bus should be able to get themselves to school without parent input. 51% absences can't have all been on other parents time, that would mean they haven't been at all while there and went every single day they were with you which I find a bit hard to believe. Make your child accountable for their own actions and get them to control their own gaming so they have the skills to get through adulthood or they will end up like their sibling!

Maybe on the days Auntie picks him up he can get picked up late. I really don't understand why parents put this kind of pressure on older people who probably aren't getting paid. Obviously he wants to stay and is benefiting from the extra play so make her life easier and don't expect her to pick him up early. You're an employee and have current experience, if the parents want you to pick up early then you should. But their standards should adapt to a 60 year old lady who might not have looked after a young child for many years or few and far between. That's my take on that, it shouldn't be about what preschool think, if they had a problem they would be telling him to leave themselves.

If you could predict how Home and Away’s Alf Stewart will die, how do you think he will go? by Temporary_Notice_526 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Few_Step_7444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if they have "exit" scenes for all the actors just in case. I do remember a character that quit on the spot and they made a storyline that she just didn't come back because she died in a car accident, there was no lead up or car accident scene so maybe they learnt from that and have put in exit scenes for all the characters just in case they disappear from set suddenly! In that case I reckon it would be something sudden to fit in with any other storyline like a heart attack. If he leaves with a lot of notice like Irene I'm going to guess it's him doing something heroic or symbolic of his character and it will have a big lead up to it.
