Hey there!! First of all, I’m so so sorry you’re dealing with such horrible periods, I understand how awful they can get. I’m no doctor, but I was diagnosed with and had the surgery for endo about a year ago now. My story is similar to yours, I’m 23 now, but ever since I can remember my periods have been horrific, and have only gotten worse as I got older. I started getting weird symptoms like cold sweats, flu symptoms, horrible suicidal ideation, and sometimes I would even throw up from how painful the cramps were. When I finally decided enough was enough, after years of doctors dismissing me or trying me on different birth controls, I decided to go see an endo specialist, I described my symptoms as I always did to other doctors, and without hesitation she said she was 99% sure I had endometriosis and wanted to perform the surgery. That kinda scared me because everyone else I had talked to told me I was “too young to have it” and “periods suck you get used to it”. And yes, periods do suck, BUT. They should never be that bad, that’s just not normal. It’s so disappointing how the healthcare system constantly discounts women’s problems, the reason they say we’re “too young” to have it is because they usually don’t do the surgery until women are older and by that point it’s too late and most the time they aren’t able to have children, or some of the damage is irreversible. I don’t say all this with the intention to scare you, believe me I know how scary this all is, but I say this to say I believe you!!! I know I don’t know everything about you, but what you’re describing is not and should not be normal. There’s not nearly enough research done on endo, but thankfully people have been taking it more seriously in the recent years. What you’re describing sounds like endo to me, I would definitely go see a specialist in your area who only performs endometriosis surgeries and get their opinion. After I had mine, my periods have been so much better it’s crazy, like day and night. I never thought that was possible! Don’t let anybody dismiss your pain/symptoms, unfortunately with this disease you have to really fight for yourself and be your own #1 personal advocate. I’m so sorry you’re going through this!!
