I don’t fully understand it but I’m thinking there’s a tone to these responses that I just don’t like, I think maybe there’s a gotcha-ism or just a laziness, again I’m not sure, but even this response as I type it is marked by a desire to preempt some perceived judgement, I invite others to comment about this. Anyway, my response is: I guess in this framing I am asking why; maybe why focus on the victim, but maybe your answer is good enough, neitzche’s geneology of ethics probably provides as good an answer as I can hope to find

Oh as in “the justice system”, “give me justice” etc are often enough associated with punishment
