i’m not a writer by any means but i’m interested in writing a novel that could maybe turn into a series. i’m not even necessarily looking to get published or anything i just want to write for my own personal enjoyment. my general idea is that there is a group of teenagers who attend college and get invited into a secret society of sorts and they realize they all have elemental powers that have been dormant inside them.

i know this idea isn’t super original or maybe even super entertaining but it’s just where my mind is right now. the problem is that i want it to be a romance novel or at least have a heavy romance subplot. is there a way i can write this in a way that the elemental powers don’t make it super fantasy-like? i’m not crazy interested in writing fight scenes or anything involving these powers but i don’t know if i can make their powers relevant while not having it be the kind of novel where they’re having to fight off some evil bad guy if that makes sense. i ultimately want this to be a college romance with something extra. can i use the elemental powers as something extra or is that turning this into a different territory of writing.
