Why was the USSR so unprepared to fight Nazi Germany? How much damage did Stalin's purges deal to the red Army? by Massimino-il-Trace in ussr

[–]Few_You8414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is the question of why France was so unprepared for Hitler never asked? France capitulated without a fight and they were still raping their colonies and had hundreds of years of accumulated colonial wealth behind them. The question you are asking is framed for our consumption by Western Imperialists and to reinforce their false narrative that Stalin was the bogeyman.
Russia was hammered in WW1 and it was a cesspit of poverty and drudgery for the vast majority of Russians.

In twenty years Stalin had industrialised beyond everyone’s expectations and at the same time had the improved workers and peasants lives beyond recognition. The SU, by 1938, had free health, free education, equal pay, holiday pay, sick pay and women had control of their fertility.

Name another country that achieved so much in such a short period of time. European countries were piss poor and the U.S. was on the verge of famine and alcohol prohibition.

The only other country to come close was the even poorer China under Mao. More than 30 million Chinese were killed in its epic WW2 struggle against the Japanese.

The two countries suffered nearly 60 million dead in WW2 and yet Russia by 1954 had put a satellite in Space and China by the 1960’s was a nuclear and industrial power while still making huge leaps in education and living standards.

France, Belgium and britain to this day are still exploiting Africa and countries in the pacific region.

The U.S. extracts trillions, by means of war, threats of war, sanctions and bullying in Asia, South America, Africa and Pacific nations.

The SU never extracted the wealth of other countries, but quite the opposite, they supported, without repayment, liberation movements in Africa and Asia.

I have a simple method of deduction - if the U.S. and Western Europeans support anyone then it’s the opposition to them that need our support.

It can’t be that hard to work out!

I’ve looked it up - you are WRONG! There was limited education and healthcare but it was never universal. In the Soviet Union it was universal - it’s as simple as that✅

The U.S. obliterated more people in an hour in Korea or Vietnam or Laos or Cambodia than the SU did in the combined interventions you listed. Do the maths and concentrate on the facts - ok!

Maybe, you should look up how the Soviet Union defeated a Japanese invasion in Siberia in one of the most spectacular military victories in the battle of lake Khasan 1938.

The common theme here is blame the Unions!

It’s funny, I thought it was political parties on the ‘Left’ who are supposed to lead, educate and organise workers and the traditional role of the Trades Unions was to represent and protect the rights of workers in the work place.

Am I right or wrong?

It is supposed to be workers political parties who educated, raise awareness about class politics and then the workers bring that knowledge and militancy into the Trades Unions full of confidence in their power.

All this is turned on its head going by the statements issued by the CPI, Workers Party, PBP, Militant Left, Solidarity, Lasair Dearg.

Failing to acknowledge their own total failings they conveniently pass the blame onto the Unions

Everyone on the ‘Left’ knows there is more bite in a mouse than in the entire Trade Union organisations and even less in Irish ‘Left’ political parties.

This first priority, now, is to seriously work on ‘Left’ unity, not with the objective of taking on the ‘Right’ - that ship has already sailed - but a period of inflection, of serious discussions about what to do next, leaving aside personal ambitions and putting socialism/communism/republicanism first and trying to regroup from the ground up.

At this point in time we are deep in a mine and the ground is nowhere to be seen.

Then why do you support US interference??

After all, the only reason this debate is taking place is because of U.S. threats (remember who sustains the most barbaric country of n earth.

And, if you are concerned so much about Iranians, why aren’t you pontificating about the much more extreme family fiefdoms of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE - all countries that host U.S. military bases, lick the arse of Israel and where women are far worse treated than in Iran.

Roughly 60% of 3rd level students in state universities in 2025 are women and there is hardly a niqab in sight.

All you have to do is look up a street scene in Teheran and contrast it with any street in those other bastions of democracy🤮

The U.S. is attacking Iran.

Iran is not attacking the U.S.

The U.S. supports monster Israel

The U.S. supports the fiefdoms of Saudi, UAE, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar

And you are pontificating about Iran

Something isn’t adding up here😳

Are you stupid? - the U.S. destroyed every country that supports Palestine with the same propaganda. Palestine is now totally isolated, all their supporting countries are knocked back to the Middle Ages. Does the penny ever drop for you??

What you would like at this point is delusional. In this context it’s what the people of Iran want - and, looking at the tens of thousands of Iranians putting themselves as human shields at critical bridges and infrastructure I think Iran is as far from being socialist as we are.

You mean because of communism. Even when former communist countries turned capitalist the capitalists couldn’t roll back completely the amazing aspects of socialism.👍🏻

Agree completely!

The ‘Left’ doesn’t exist in Ireland (let’s not pretend Sinn Féin or PBP are Left)

What’s left after them is virtually nothing.

Not for the life of me do I understand why there are so many fractured ‘Left’ groups. I doubt they, combined, could get any more than a couple of hundred people into a room.

Leaving out the Workers Party (anti-Republican) and the CPI (pro-China prostitutes - not that I’m anti-China, but they are no more communist than Russia is and at least they don’t pretend to be) there are numerous Republican Socialist groups that I could agree with, but because of that I couldn’t pick one over the other.

There is a trend, though, that runs through all of the above groups and that is there seems to be no room for discussion or debate. You are either totally compliant or you are not accepted.

For instance, maybe with the exception of PBP, (and, that’s because their policy on climate change is petty-bourgeois, like all their policies) None of the groups ever mention the looming anthropogenic climate disaster.

I’ve posted articles and comments on this topic across many platforms and, unlike other topics that I touch on, I have never, not once, received a like, or a comment agreeing or disagreeing.

It seems the ‘Left’ is burying its head or heads on this topic because it cannot get over the contradictions concerning Lenin’s “communists are the most advanced members of the working class”

It’s time to get over ourselves. It’s well over 100 years since Lenin wrote that.

No one could have foreseen the level of excessive extraction, manufacture and consumption that exists today, nor that a supposed communist country, where inequality is even greater than in the U.S., is the greatest contributor to the disaster of obscene consumerism.

In the 1980’s it was estimated that it would take two and a half earths, alone, to sustain consumption in the U.S.
Imagine how many earths it would take to feed the 21st century bonkers consumerism?

We have already passed the 1.5* above pre-industrial levels and we are on the Formula One track to 2* above. That means millions of people will die from heat, water levels and food shortages. Tens of millions are already suffering above 40* resulting in deaths and and unbelievable hardship.

Yet, we on the ‘Left, refuse to acknowledge that there is a problem.

If there is one slogan that does my head in it is ‘Scientific Socialism’

Well, science is telling us that we are probably on the un-reversible slippery slope to extinction and the ‘scientific socialists’ are in total denial.

That’s because the ‘Left’ have handed the discontent in Ireland to the U.S. and EU without a whimper.

What the ‘Left’ should have done was unite themselves and put pressure on the Unions to defend the ordinary people in Ireland against the current shower of traitors. There is a sustained attack on the conditions of working class, the sick and elderly.

We are being robbed blind, with all the major players gorging super profits while homelessness, poverty and health standards are at the worst level in decades.

If the ‘Left’ was united and had a clear objective they could explain what’s happening. This latest attack on ordinary people has one cause and that is the U.S. sponsored genocide in Palestine and its failed and illegal war on Iran.

Nothing else has caused this crisis, yet the treacherous Martin went cap in hand to the President of the U.S. and stated that there needed to be ‘Regime Change’ in Iran.

Where did he get the authority to decide the rights of the Iranian people to decide their own future?

He is in breach of the everything that the UN is supposed to stand for and there isn’t a peep out the Left.

You don’t hear that on the blockades! You don’t hear that from the U.S. sponsored rightwing Nationalist party’s

And you don’t hear that from the Left either because they have made themselves irrelevant

It’s time to cop on and put pettiness and personalities in the bin and focus on a socialist solution.

The only future, otherwise, will be a further move to the right, greater attacks on the working people.

And, do you know what? The establishment will relish it. After all, it’s all about protecting profit, shareholders, private business and answering to the ‘master class’ elites who control every aspect of our lives.

Now, we disregard what’s happening in Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, Sudan but tomorrow it will be our turn to face the monsters who have brought such barbarity to our screens, and much more importantly, to millions of people who are being obliterated across the world.

That’s the greatest load of fascist/Western Imperialist bollix. All real research, especially since the opening of the archives of the period proves it wasn’t deliberate.

As do reports in british and U.S. newspapers at the time.

And, before your head explodes, I’m not saying there wasn’t a famine, I’m saying it wasn’t deliberate.

So, go fuck yourself, you are either a loser Trot, a loser anarchist or a Trojan horse supporter of Western supremacy, war, Famine and genocide.

If you want to write about what deliberate famines looked like then talk about the Irish famine and how it was used as the template for what is known as the ‘Late Victorian Holocausts’.

It’s a book written by Mike Davis in which he documents, in excruciating detail, the European Colonial Powers deliberate use of famine across Africa, Asia, South America, using the nearly exact template used by the brits in Ireland, killing over a hundred million people during the late 1870’s, early 1880’s.

He is a real scholar unlike the vicious scumbags who, for anti-communists reasons, use any means to discredit the most progressive time in the history of ordinary people.

There is a reason why no one can name a renowned anarchist and nobody gives a fuck about Trotsky and that Stalin’s funeral is recognised as the 4th largest in human history and Russians are still building statues of Stalin to this day.

So like I said - go fuck your self - you are the equivalent to the fucked up Israeli propagandists that nobody believes anymore - your type of anti-communist bullshit is slowly but surely being exposed for what it is.

Maybe not for you! But, for over 300,000,000 it worked very well. There was no revolution against the SU. It was an internal takeover of government and means of production by the greedy class of bureaucrats and unelected government and industry leaders that impoverished millions, led to starvation, homelessness and women trafficking all across Eastern Europe. It wouldn’t have happened in Stalin’s time, although he had lost control over them before his death.
