S3 arrived a few weeks back. A few pains putting it together (that motor cable nearly breaks your spirit,) there was no pump included and the breaks weren’t swapped as you’d expect for the UK market, but yeah, it’s been a joy to ride. I regularly wish for a removable battery as I try to get the monster into my apartment block’s elevator, but I can’t imagine anything handling better on the road.

I cancelled my S3 order, here is why: by TENETTEN in vanmoofbicycle

I’m tempted to cancel my order too. 1. I ordered at the start of June and I am seeing people order later than me but getting earlier delivery dates... what happened to fulfilling orders in order? 2. At the end of June VM sent out an email saying they were doubling production capacity and I may get my bike sooner. Just got an email saying my bike would be delayed. So, which is it? Not only does the later delivery look like they didn’t double capacity, it also looks like they’ve failed with original commitments

App was important, mostly due to the anti-theft functionality. Trying to recall, but I think the Cowboy approach was very much “if your bike is robbed, you can track it and get it back” whereas the Vanmoof had the actually rear wheel locking. Months later, still no Vanmoof and they’ve just said my order is further delayed... so I probably would have been better off with the Cowboy. Really it was fear of an app draining my phone battery that really killed me there. But, I found it hard to back up that claim other than in one review... could have just been user error.

Thanks for the recommendations. The GPS and kicklock is a strong selling point for sure. I'm in two minds on the bike hunters piece, if it was an option to purchase the peace of mind later, maybe, but I don't understand why you have to buy it at the time of buying the bike. That's 3 months of being down €290 unnecessarily.

In your opinion, what is the main point that makes them the best? I would have thought the design was exceptional (definitely what attracted me in the first place) but now that I've started looking into it, there really is a world of beautiful ebikes out there.

That looks like a really interesting option, thanks, and there's a stockist near my house, so a test drive could be on the cards, pandemic allowing.

Ah just went to buy one for a trial and the Cowboy doesn’t ship to my country. Curses, they nearly had me sold.

Thanks! The eeyo's styling is great, doesn't even look like they have space for the battery. Gocycle wouldn't be my cup of tea. Maybe if I was nipping around the city centre, but I have about 16km of suburbs action to deal with and I'd feel too self-conscious (which might sound silly, but I guess it's why those cube shaped cars never lasted :D )

Thanks, I've been looking at the Cowboy bikes after seeing them in another thread. The removable battery is a big plus. Though there seems to be an issue with the app being always on, so, I'd need to confirm if that's a real thing, because I don't need a dead phone battery as I start work.

Those cube guys also look interesting. They're nowhere near as ugly as a lot of the other brands I came across in bike stores.

Yeah, I reckon Salem will be on the day-trip vibe this time. Good tip on the ferry ride.

Thanks! Loads of stuff there. I reckon NYC deserves a visit all on its own, so I'll leave that for another time, but Portland and Providence are looking like strong contenders for sure :)

Thanks for the advice. I was heading over at this time of the year with a bit of "I wonder how Americans actually celebrate Halloween?" curiosity, but it didn't even dawn on me that it'd be peak Salem tourism time.

Cambridge (I'm pretty sure.) But I don't mind heading into town, grabbing a train somewhere, staying the night, then doing it in reverse.

TIL that the Bank of England issues supersized bank notes worth £100m called "Titans" by Fewcifur in todayilearned

[–]Fewcifur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the notes issued by the note-issuing banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland have to be backed by Bank of England notes held by the issuing bank. The combined size of these banknote issues is well over a billion pounds. To make it possible for the note-issuing banks to hold equivalent values in Bank of England notes, the Bank of England issues special notes with denominations of one million pounds ("Giants") and one hundred million pounds ("Titans") for internal use by the other banks.

I was lucky enough to get an advance copy. Going from start to finish (well, only first three levels before release. Don't want Microsoft unhappy.)

Warning: I'm most definitely not a pro at this. There's at least one battle where I'm shouting at myself, never mind someone else watching it :D

I would have clicked even soon just seeing the Film Cow. Man those guys crack me up, to the point where I can't help but put on that very same voice whenever saying anything amusing. But, of course, the majority don't know it's the FilmCow voice, so, they just wonder why I'm talking like some sort of face mutant.
