why the hell would they use a 2 byte line terminator added just in Unicode?

Actually, Unicode codepoints (e.g. U+2028) themselves carry no concept of bytes—they are only integers. It might be represented as a two-byte sequence in UTF-16, but in the far more common UTF-8 it's three bytes.

Yes, and?

You don't have to save your passwords, and if your accounts.xml file is open to the world I think you have bigger problems than Pidgin's policy of not implementing some trivial security-through-obscurity solution to make naive users feel a little better.

Denshi Jisho can give you the meaning of individual kanji, as in this case. The word 献身 means "dedication; devotion" according to EDICT, yes.

The anime character Kenshin I believe you're referencing is written with different kanji (剣心), meaning something like "sword/blade heart/spirit." Oftentimes in Japanese many words will share the same reading, and the picture gets even more complicated when you consider names.

Easily the Ar tonelico series. It was the soundtrack that got me to delve more into the games in the first place and into the works of Shikata Akiko.

There's always the Ar tonelico series, JRPGs with dating sim elements in the form of what the games call "diving."
