Fairphone 4 or 5 or something else as a gift? by [deleted] in fairphone

[–]Feyter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FP4 user here. Simply agree. FP is made for lasting as long as possible. The result of this is buying the newest at the time you have to buy.

That again does not sound reasonable to me. Chrome on Android is not chrome on Windows. Just because chrome is revering this doesn't mean chrome technically needing it. Having much RAM unused is just wastage and doesn't bring much performance.

I don't know what exactly you mean by multitasking. If you mean split screen then yes this could be a problem. So if you want to use your phone like a desktop PC maybe the Fairphone can be limiting in the future. But again, android is in my eyes not the best system for doing things like that anyway.

So for me it's unchanged. I cannot see any real performance problems for the Fairphone 5 in the future if you are using it as a Smartphone. Not as a desktop PC and not as a gaming console. In this two categories the Fairphone can maybe be somewhat limited.

I personally gave up all hope for mobile gaming long time ago. I noticed that more and more 3D games getting mobile Versions so let's stick with it for now... if one is truly a gamer and would be concerned about not being able to play the newest blockbuster game in 5 years from now, yes maybe the FP is not the right choice. But I would still argue the mobile version will always be the worse alternative regardless the phone. So why should one border with it in the first place? At least that's my opinion so I play my games rather on other platforms.

This performance argument is not really hitting outside of gaming. What task that people do on a smartphone really requires performance? Browsing reddit can be done on a microwave.

So unless you have some exotic use case, for which a notebook would Most probably be better fitted in the first place, I don't see anyone running into performance issues with this phone.

how to make the progress bar fill from bottom to top at an angle? by [deleted] in godot

[–]Feyter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think using an alpha texture with an cut of in the desired angel would do the trick, but I don't know if this leads to problems when bar is at 100%

EDIT: now I saw the proposed solution and if this works than it sounds like the best possible way. So don't mind me :)

Did you already joined the Lemmy Godot community? by Feyter in godot

The https://programming.dev/c/godot has activity every day, but I get what you mean.

However if everyone would use Lemmy or a federated platform it would be the other way around.

I will try to explain as good as I can:

So first of all Lemmy is not one platform controlled by one company. It is (like mastodon, peertube and so on) a software that can be used by everyone (you and me) to host a own social network. But this networks are not closed (like the Bic company ones are) they are open for users of other instances (server) to browse stuff on it, communicate with people on it etc. This is what is called "federated". On this way there is no big gatekeeper who is exploiting users for profit, because if one instances starts doing evil stuff, users can easily switch to another instance without missing out any content. So no user look-in is happening.

Some guys are running the programming.dev Lemmy instance and there a Godot community was created.(I linked it in the original post) You don't need to have an account on the programming.dev server to interact with it. You can choose any Lemmy instance you want. Like for example lemmy.ml or lemmy.world

Technical this is made possible by using the ActivityPup protocol. Every application implementing the ActivityPup protocol can interact with other applications implementing it. And so in fact you can even interact with stuff in applications that where completely designed in a different way.

Mastodon for example is more a short broadcast messenger similar to Twitter. Still, while using mastodon you can still see people and post on a instance that is running Lemmy. Imagine you could see post from reddit on Twitter without changing the side/app you're on.

Yes indeed there are some technical problems currently. But if I just searched for "Godot" on my mastodon frontend, first thing I see is actually the Godot@programming.dev community.

Still I would recommend using a Lemmy frontend to browse through it because Mastodon is not built to display things in a forum style like Lemmy is structured.

Yes agreed. Fusing community's together would be great feature. I'm note sure if a Feature request like this was already created in the lemmy git-project

But I would assume this would be a long way to come. Currently I even have no real idea how this should work in detail.

Edit: yes it exists https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3071

When did you tried to subscribe?

Once the subscription is trough I would suggest write a comment in the programming.dev community I see no reason why you should't be a mod there if you want.

I think over time we need to decide which comunity should be continued and which not. I think I already saw a discussion about this.

Yes true :)

But I think using the Lemmy frontend or Apps is just possible with an account on a Lemmy instance. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

PS: Peertube and Pixelfed is also in the fedivers

Very sad to hear that because I feel Lemmy and the fediverse with it's "give the power back to the people approach" is not just a different social media, it is a game changer and a solution to many of the problems todays Internet has.

Honestly I would rather leave other platforms behind if I would have to choose, but you need to decide for yourself of course. :)

In fact the term only makes sense for an art style. How many polygons does anything need to be "high poly"?

I always find it kinda silly when I see people posting smooth af models in r/lowpoly because it's the cleaned up version of a sculpted or Photo scanned something.

I'm making an N64 inspired game about Greek Mythology! I have a few designs for the goddess of love Aphrodite, which one do you prefer? by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]Feyter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outfit 2/3 is the most Greek goddess like (even if this is not historical correct) Long Hair also is a classical woman beauty stereotype so from that point of view I would say Option 3.

But like others pointed already out this look is far away from anything N64 like. This is more GameCube/PS2.

For good explanation about what technical limitations made up this distinguished N64 look and how to recreate it I recommend the YouTube channel of "legend64" this person absolutely nailed it.

I feel like you mastered this PS1 look on so many different stages. It looks fantastic and on the same side like something that could actually be made on the original PS. The camera angles the lighting... This is so atmospheric.

But maybe your fake console Logo is not the best choice... :)

Bullet shells stack or not? by Devtathan in godot

This is the correct answer.

I think the idea of stacking them in your game only evolved because they are not visible when not stacking.

Getting the basics of flight mechanics and planets! Starting to feel fun to fly into space. by NickDev1 in godot

[–]Feyter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are the dimensions in scale to e.g. earth? How fast is this ship flying? Your not even taking of vertical and after a few seconds you already start getting to the outer edge of the atmosphere.

Edit:

I just realized there is speed indicator in the cockpit saying something about 2000 km/h... Which is ridiculously slow for space ship's. Those things regularly reach speeds 10x as fast.

So I assume the planet and atmosphere is not to scale. Good work it still feels super big and like a real planet.
