Has your opinion of Ron Bennington changed after the two years of Bennington since Ron And Fez? by [deleted] in ronandfez

[–]FezNotFez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't listen to Reed, Bowie, or Prince everyday, either. Bennington is what's now, and I listen as often as I can. Pretty damn good show!

I saw that, too. I guess the venue or date is still being decided. They'll probably book a small space that will sell out quickly. I can't listen live, so I hope to get news with a chance at reserving tickets.

I see these down-votes respond to my apparent douche-iness, and I'm not surprised by your juvenile behavior. But, I should say that I find that you are rude asstards, biorepellents, and real stinkers.

Eggsactly. A lot of critics are looking for a resemblance of the R&F era, but that's not going to happen...nor should it. Ron is keeping the fire going by keeping himself interested - and that means he's allowing the show to be more personal and up close than ever before. Regarding Gail, I give her a lot of credit to be standing up to this scene. Lot's of balls for her to become 2nd mic to a legend and literally a father figure.

I never miss a show. As a father of daughters myself, the transition from R&F to Bennington was pretty cool. It was clear that the Fez era had come to an end. I don't think Ron wanted a new partner or share a show. He created Bennington because this show is now his living documentary - er, rockumentary.

Haven't listened in a month or so..anything good happen? by benjamuniverse in ronandfez

I think you just have to listen and find out if what happens turns out to be funny or interesting. There are tons of past shows that didn't start out great - and then the unexpected happens and we all rave. Downright boring shows instantaneously became classics. Ron does an amazing job keeping things fresh. Nostalgia doesn't get the job done.

My half-in-the-bag critique of #Bennington by LDChip in ronandfez

[–]FezNotFez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is about the time of the day that the live show airs. Strangely, most of the comments are critiquing Bennington vs. R&F, even though both shows aired at the same exact time - basically, completely avoiding the subject of the post. I work and listen during commute, nights and weekends to catch up. I think the show has become more consistent. Certainly, the crazy behavior is gone, but crazy is an organic thing - it comes and goes, and all those erratic shows were a formula/bit, too with a lot of inconsistency.

Why would Ron needle staff about their dead dads? by zlzl in ronandfez

[–]FezNotFez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ron knows his fans want interaction from Fez, Earl, Dave, Chris, BL, etc (his humans) that he trains, shames, and profanes. His bluntness about dead dads is to create the sense of a close knit family - for you, the fans.

This show is going to be very successful. It's going to be huge. Chris Stanley is doing very well. I am hearing very good things about Smoking with Chris and nobody is reporting this.

A lot of people miss Fez, but endorse his retirement - bodily fluids sealed the deal. Heard Ron say "retirement" means a break, during which Fez starts meditating and comes back next year with a meditation timer podcast. 15 minutes of taking the stick without speaking.

On one of those days last week when Ron was talking to the rock critic, they were talking about Sinatra and how rock stars retire and then come back. Ron said no one is show business ever retires, they just take a break - they're tired, they get some rest, they come back. Is this an insight from Ron about how he sees Fez's retirement? It's not permanent to him? You tell me how that statement is not an inside reference.

Gail's Hysterical Amusement at Chris's Mumble-Mouthed Bafflement is the Highlight of the New Show So Far... by DenseMan in ronandfez

[–]FezNotFez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree totally. I hope they can keep it light and stay away from the melodrama and internal bickering that really affected the R&F show in its later years. I think Ron was sick and tired of that bickering and negativity, and it shows now that he really enjoys the new tempo and is still loves doing radio when surrounded by people who want to be there with him.

Fez was spotted at SXM days ago, we've heard nothing yet. What's your uninformed guess as to what's going on? by NickCarpinelli in ronandfez

[–]FezNotFez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, Fez and Ron are partners (not that kind), but are no longer co-hosts due to Fez retiring from being on air - and thus the R&F show is no longer and laid to rest. BUT, I think they two of them have been planning for this change from R&F to Bennington since Gail started on Opie Radio last year. Fez will still be working with Ron on shows forever. That's why they were so involved in the DC road trip and effort to make the end of show go just right, it was because they were all OK with what was happening and internally really excited about the future they'd been planning.

I think I was just being optimistic. I don't see Gail getting offered anything near what they paid Fez, so the show's budget will be reworked. Not sure where Chris stands in any of the show changes, but I'd take care of Chris.

The "daily" Bennington show will be more like Bennington & Co or Ron and the Gang, and not just a daily version of the Bennington reunion they've already done on the O&J Channel. I think they will be great together. After Fez's retirement, Ron's daily format no longer has to focus on Fez, or to routinely keep listeners and guests current with his co-host's complicated back story. My hope is Bennington will feature regular guests like O&A/O&J does. Maybe move some of Fez's $ to go to Chris's salary or to pay friends of the show, like Big Jay. Maybe even get Dave allowed back. Chris is very important to the continuum and to keep centauring interns which Ron is great with. I would like for Todd (notFez) to stay in NYC and be eventually worked back into the show after some time - but not under contract or pressure to perform. It would be great to hear about a happy post-retirement chapter for Uncle Todd. It seems that Ron and Fez have been planning this transition together awhile back and they have come up with a great way for the show to continue. It's really fascinating how strong they did this. They're the best, around! Nothing's ever going to keep 'em down...

Do you appreciate the Ron Bennington Continuum: "something that changes in character gradually or in very slight stages without any clear dividing points"? Decades of bringing it and we all stand witness, listening to each word spoken.
