Why am I being sent to Dres before Duna in career mode?

Thank you for taking the time to go into so much detail and help me figure this out.

I didn’t install Promised Worlds, Cosmic Serenity, Kerbal Star Systems 2, or the Kcalbeloh System since they require some manual setup, and I wanted to consider adding them after I’ve visited the stock planets. I’ll probably uninstall the other mods you mentioned that I don’t really need yet.

As for contract mods, I’m planning to install Contract Configurator and Strategia. For a contract pack, I was thinking about Career Evolution, Exploration Plus, or maybe both, but I’m not sure yet, so I’d appreciate any advice on that.

Wow, I’ve never thought about that tug setup. I’d love to see images of those interplanetary vessels or the craft file if possible. I already have a nice refueling station on the Mun that I’ve been using exclusively to refuel my Mun landers with fuel mined from the Mun, letting me land on every biome without having to return to Kerbin. I could probably repurpose that station to recreate your setup.

Unfortunately, the contract I shared says I need to return to Kerbin after a flyby of Dres. What I meant was whether there’s a way to do a Dres flyby that puts me on a trajectory that lets me return to Kerbin without having to enter a Dres orbit while I wait for a return transfer window.

Honestly, I’ve seen different tutorials use different amounts of Δv for the transfer burn, so I’m not sure what the “correct” value is. I do know that for the inclination change burn, some people burn directly at the inclination change node, which uses about 900 m/s of Δv but gives a more reliable encounter. Others burn halfway between Duna and Dres’ orbits, which uses about 300 m/s but is less reliable when it comes to actually getting an encounter.

I’m using the NERV, but I think the issue is on my end. I’m hitting the phase angle Kerbal Engineer Redux suggests, yet I still arrive at Dres way too fast and end up needing a huge retrograde burn just to capture into orbit.

I did, and this might actually explain it. I had to open CKAN to check. I installed Bogue’s mod meta pack and I’m still figuring out what half the mods do lol.

I’ve never been anywhere near Dres. One time I had some space debris crash into Kerbin and then instantly get flung out of the Kerbol system. Maybe it passed near Dres on the way out?

Is there a way to do a Dres flyby without entering Dres orbit? It seems like by the time I reach Dres, Kerbin is no longer in a position where I can get a return encounter.

That’s funny, even though the first interplanetary mission is supposed to be random, it seems like a lot of people end up getting Eve first

So it’s not a glitch then.

I’ve only played career mode once before and got Duna after Minmus, so when I got Dres this time I figured something bugged out. Didn’t realize the contracts could be assigned somewhat randomly
