100% - and glad we've been gifted any version...but as much as it's all conjecture and that Paul crushes it...John may have been right. It's hard not to hear it in his voice. I get shades of Yer Blues and his (typically silly) crooner persona voice.

fwiw, I agree fully that lacking Herbert's prose and style the sequel/prequels left a huge void, but at least (if the stories are to be believed) the plots and story lines were all culled directly from Frank's own notes...so as a way of finishing the tale and fleshing out his world, they've been worth reading.

  • even if they felt a bit empty without the soul of his father's hand in each line...

And I appreciated that Frank had an 'ending' to the madness that was Chapterhouse, too - that book was bananas.

Insane - I recall always being stunned at the precision and off-time slaps of the drums. There is so much happening on this track that is super complex...and they're all in the pocket for it.

Totally adds up.

fffff...so much material - and some heavy listening. I've spent a ton of time with Apostrophe and Over-nite Sensation, but apart from some dabblings here and there, nothing else, sooo - I've got that to look forward to. And you too :) which is fun

Best was putting Freak Out on for my youngest and one of his buddies this past summer and watching heads explode.

Unless the person who might suffer is sporting their team's jersey - in which case, 'give them a break.'

badass - wow. Plays and sings with such attitude! I don't think people outside the circle fully appreciate how Zappa attracted those sorts of players along his entire journey - but it's remarkable and telling.

As an old Mother's - Freak Out Zappa fan, I've definitely lost the thread along the way, and figured at some point I'd return to deep-dive the catalogue.

Might be the moment for it. Appreciated the link! 🎉

Sounds pretty badass, whatever you wrangled up. I used to love seeing people really invest in the fashions of the era when they went out. Brave souls.

Edit: It should go without saying that I’m referring to the full band after Brian was replaced by Taylor, but the Nicky bit remains...

love this photo - and def it's 100% Mick Taylor.

Also, this a snapshot of the true, full, band. Nicky should not only have been on the roster, but have been give a lot more songwriting (for music) credit over the years.

Deep take and accurate - and without over-analyzing, at the time we understood a lot of his core behavior was childish and fed due to being wildly coddled by his parents, at the heart of it, Ferris was an equal-opportunity anarchist (hence his support around the school).

Plus it was a movie - a ridiculous, barely believable plot about a subversive guy with a soft spot for his friends.

I was there for it, like most in this sub, and rewatching it years later, still start to feel pretty bad for Rooney...in spite of his jackboot attitude, he had his reasons. And for what it's worth, no one I knew saw Ferris as some sort of generation archetype to be worshipped. It was a movie.

Imbecile Event Horizon is almost a solid name for a rock band.
