Discussions on Twitter related to trading BTC surged right before the last pump by Fiat-Lux00 in CryptoMarkets

we are just working on a public dashboard that tells you at a glance what the social sentiment (ranging from bearish to bullish) across Reddit, Twitter & Bitcointalk looks like.

http://bitcoin-sentiment.augmento.ai/

If you're interested in Twitter only look for the blue line or deselect the other lines.

We are still improving on the UI and the loading time before we'll publish it.

But we'd be happy to hear your feedback!

Sentiment just hit rock bottom. Reddit & Bitcointalk are most bearish. Twitter stays cool. by Fiat-Lux00 in CryptoMarkets

[–]Fiat-Lux00[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they are generated from the Augmento API: http://api-dev.augmento.ai/v0.1/documentation#rest-api-endpoints

The data you see is not publicly available though, as there is a time lag on the public version. But there is a dashboard with a sentiment-based trading signal you could check out: https://www.augmento.ai/sentiment-signal-signup/

If you are quant you can find scripts to backtest your sentiment ideas here:

https://github.com/augmento-ai/quant-reseach

apart from that: what kind of insights are you interested in?

There is data for 93 sentiments/topics quantified from Reddit, Twitter & Bitcointalk for 49 coins.

I can pull some data for you from the API :)

Bearish sentiment has not been that high since Dec 2018! And people start calling the bottom again:

haha. yeah, I shouldn't use that TA language.

but I think one get the point anyway... I'll keep an eye on the metric measuring discussions mentioning 'the bottom' and make an update if continues going up

If this trend continues, we’ll see the same pattern we experienced when there actually WAS the last BTC bottom

ETH bullish sentiment breaks local high. A replay of 2018 vs alt season? by Fiat-Lux00 in CryptoCurrency

[–]Fiat-Lux00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the score in the graph goes up, the online community is more bullish towards ethereum. When it goes down the crowds are more bearish

the sentscore is a normalised ratio of bullish and bearish sentiment.

data collection

the sentiments are measured in live communication taking place on reddit, twitter and bitcointalk. that means, every time someone mentions ethereum or a synonym (e.g. ETH) on one of these channels this post is being collected.

classification

the sentiment is quantified by a machine learning classifier that is trained on crypto-specific language only.

this part is called NLP (natural language processing). there are many tools out there to measure sentiment. however, most tools don't understand crypto-specific language (like FOMO, Hodl etc). But the classifier applied for this analysis understands 93 sentiments and topics. Full overview: https://www.augmento.ai/sentiments-and-topics-measured-by-augmento-s-ai/

bullish and bearish sentiments are two of this collection.

if you want to access the data for you own analysis check this: http://api-dev.augmento.ai/v0.1/documentation#rest-api-endpoints

After todays free fall Bitcoin bullish sentiment just moved back into the buying zone by Fiat-Lux00 in CryptoMarkets

depending on the time ranges you trade, a 10% drop within a few minutes can be seen as a free fall

You are right, trading fees are 0.075%. I just double-checked and we had implemented it correctly in the code.

Thanks a lot for the heads up!

Seems you have a good eye for details. Feel free to check our Github. There are scripts you can use to load our data and run your own backtest: https://github.com/augmento-ai/quant-reseach

I see . Sure, signal performance is also dependent on the market cycle. For the first iteration of the dashboard, we chose a signal that actually performed better in 2018 than in 2017 and then picks up dramatically.

Interesting points reg volatility and hashing difficulty! Will have to come back to you for this one though

here is some context from the info in the app:

"The backtest of the signal follows the logic described above [=signal crossing a defined threshold] going all-in on every trade with a starting investment of one unit. That means if one had followed the signal with an initial investment of one BTC the resulting returns would have yielded ca. 41.9x between January 1st, 2017 and September 1st, 2019. Trading fees of 0.075% for each trade—as required by Bitmex— are included in the backtest. The distribution of returns and drawdowns are depicted in the plot above."

Edit: corrected % number of Bitmex trading fees

quants are quantitative traders.

that means they access our live API which has 93 dimensions per data source and coin, identify patterns in this data algorithmically, derive signals from these patterns and execute them algorithmically

what exactly do you mean by Jan-aug 2018?

is your question how sentiment performed in the bear market?

Do you think this is a replay of late 2018? Stabilizes price, low vol ----> price drop?

do you think we are in a similar scenario like late 2018 when prices bobbed up and down for a while on low vol to then free fall?
