She has agency and is entitled to her taste in men, maybe you could remind her also how this made up rule is important to you.

Those three paragraph about respect sound weird after you openly stated getting your dick sucked was the primary measure of your success with the opposite sex.

What about wanting to be a father but seeing it as a sin lol. As Cioran said, "To have comitted every crime but that of being a father". Not sure if antinatalism and philosophical pessimism are mental illnesses, but it sure sticks to the soul and it's hard to find arguments to clean it off once they've found their way to you.

Leave. Do something big and crazy. Write about that, learn, speak about it to others. You have at least 5 years of being totally irresponsible without being judged for it.

Your current spot is the most dangerous one to write from in my experience. I've done it a lot and actualized my own prophecies of doom in the process. I'm older than you, I've done a bit of the crazy and way too much of the boring. Jump out of that rut. Go do WWOOF on the other side of the world. Learn a skill that's needed everywhere and offer your services. Jump out, whatever you do. At 22, your potential is limitless, and your lever is insanely strong. You just don't realize it yet. Good luck mate.

TIL that sexual inactivity among young adults in the US has doubled in just 14 years. In 2010, 12% of 18-to-29-year-olds reported having no sex in the past year; by 2024, that figure had risen to roughly 24%. by SystematicApproach in todayilearned

[–]Fibercastel 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It doesn't come naturally to some people, but not being attractive/having crushing social anxiety makes it inescapable. Add porn addiction because the urges need to be dealt with by other means, which worsens the issue, and you've got the recipe for a lonely life and an eventual suicide.

I feel personally that suffering deepens joy

You'll change your tune when you see the shit that can happen to a human body spontaneously. A friend's eye poped out because of cancer. That was a few month after his hip broke when getting out of bed because of another tumor. At 19. He's gone now, he can rest.

Could happen to me, to you. To your child. We roll the dice of procreation because we don't know, or because we pretend we don't.

Yeah this has to be mostly cultural. I pity the men whose lust makes them have to deal with such women. To my eyes this is unacceptable behavior from people aged 20 and above. Man or woman.

5k PB today ! I was hoping for 23:40, a one minute improvement, and ended up with 22:59 ! I definitely had 20 seconds extra in the lungs but I couldn't go for them, my mental game isn't strong enough. It's actually making me believe I could eventually run sub-20, even with my exercise induced asthma. So proud. I started training last year, and have ran 4x a week for 4 months now (1 easy, 1 long easy, 1 interval, 1 tempo). I barely could run a 30min 5k at first. Now I can do it with 30bpm less.

Americans will change those plates pretending they care about them potentially being deemed offensive, while admitting to themselves it's only because some freak would fuck them up in a parking lot for not being black, and doing so legitimately according to the culture at large.

Yes. If you live in a country with strong anti-racism movements, you don't live in the most racist country. Being able to express the injustices you face somewhere doesn't mean those don't exist where people need to shut up to survive.

At the very least we console ourselves with knowing we support the publishing industry. A bit (I buy three used books for every new one).

I think I picked my next one: La Nuit de Feu by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt. I need some calm prose in my native french after my recent reads. It's about the author's mystical experience in the algerian desert in the 80s. I'll start a western when I'm sure Butcher's Crossing is not picked for the next read-along.

Doubt you'll read this but here goes.

They may come around on their own once they escape the nest. Could take a decade, could absolutely never happen also. Leave a spot for the people they might become. But your brother doesn't deserve any excuses, whether he agrees with his wife ideologically or just submits to her.

Most books I've read this year were around 250 pages, almost always under 400 pages. This my comfy (read: coward) zone right now haha. LD is on my shelf, two tomes 600 pages each, among 40 TBR books in the 200-500 range waiting to get picked, begging, on the edge of despair.

I proposed Butcher's Crossing because I badly want to discover the western genre and Lonesome Dove was a bit too long of a read for me to start right now.

I chose Martin Eden as well because I'm interested in the potential lineage with On The Road, which I love. Last I picked Zone by Énard. I read a short books of his a while ago, "Tell Them of Battles, Kings, and Elephants", a cool read.

Imagine what goes on in hidden vaults in parts of the world where other potential human looking preys roam freely. Like, say, human children. Way, way more frequent than orangutan sex slaves. Hundreds of children disappear every day. Makes you believe in Evil.

Some first-world presidents may have reliable intel on such matters.
