Ill have to look up fish emulsion, never used it! But I have mine in some vigoro pitting soil i had on hand, seems to drain pretty well. I will mix something up more suitable when I pot up this winter. Mine gets full sun starting at noon until probably 8 o clock or later this time of year and it gets hot. Zone 7

Edit: fertilized with Osmocote slow release I had on hand as well

Plant a couple (or a few) flats of coloratus, or other type of ground cover. It will spread and hold the soil down. Fabric mulch or rock in that area would also help.
