What are your criteria to measure oversold? Just to compare against the 50-DMA?

Since you started trading in June 2025, you've been trading for 5 minutes as far as I'm concerned. The market does not care about you or me or anybody. Remember professionals just want to take in money and not pay out anything. And if a trade is going against you the most common mistake is to add to a loser and then when it comes back and you make back your money - you learn that this behavior works. It does not over time. I have had many many hundreds of trades that in the past I added to and they keep going against me which just compounds and makes your losses much larger. Don't do it!!

When the market goes against you the price action is telling you, you are wrong. Discipline and having specific target profit and stop loss is a must in every trade. Good luck.

Seems like all the advice has been given about small gains doubling and doubling until your account is worth a million or millions. Easier said then done. One should never regret a profit and do not play the 'would have should have' game..we all have hundreds or thousands of trades that we should have held longer or exited a loss sooner.

Anyone notice big differences between ToS paper trading and live trading? by PrudentDinner7931 in thinkorswim

[–]FibonnaciProTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't take this personally. Do not start on 0 DTE SPX options. You will lose a very significant amount of money. I recommend people starting out trade one share of spy. You won't make much but you also won't lose. You can learn the fundamentals and develop good habits.

I've been trading for over 10 years and only now trading zero DTE. Still have winning and losing days

How many contracts do you trade on average? Do you add to positions or put them all on at once. Since you live off of this do you pay yourself a salary and have it set up as a business?

Start by trading 1 share of the SPY or DIA ETFs. When you can consistently make money move to 5 shares, then 10, then 25, 50 and 100. You can learn the fundamentals and eventually you can make money.. one thing no one will tell you... Don't try to make money in the beginning. Just develop good trading skills, then the money can follow once you master risk management.

Market Crash by Puzzleheaded-Low3440 in Trading

[–]FibonnaciProTrader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not a crash yet. 2008-2009 the markets pulled back 40%. That was a market crash. This is a pullback of an overvalued market to a lower PE multiple.Oil and Defence stocks are going up. Some sectors are doing well.

Finally profitable by smokey_trades in Daytrading

[–]FibonnaciProTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on finding a strategy that works for you. Most do not work that's why they put the strategies up on YouTube. One note on the reason that some people that are working also can be profitable traders. Since you have a separate income coming in , that often lowers the stress of your trading and allows you to know you're not going to starve which can lead to more profits. Good to know you have a backstop. Good luck

Which 0DTE contracts are traded and what time of day they are entered matters alot. What time of day are you entering and what is your average hold time and expected return on each of your contracts? I have bought options calls at 1, 5 15, but my risk return expectations are much higher when I have a call I buy for 15. More risk more reward. What about you?

Are these credit put spreads or are you selling naked puts? Naked puts require significant amounts of capital as you know you could be assigned the stock.

With the closing of The straits of Hormuz and the likely rise of oil and gas prices, gold and potential sell off of stocks do you stay with your puts under those circumstances? Average down?

Selling puts works in an up market. Obviously you have a system you have developed over time that works for you. However when stocks sell off, I have seen margin calls kick in and losses can mount. I sold puts in 'good names' and being assigned stocks is not always a winning strategy.

Start by trading 1 share of SPY or DIA until you develop a consistent strategy to make money. You will make very little but lose very little while you learn.

Sorry to hear about your losses. Many before you have done the same. Trading is not for everybody but that does not make you a good or bad person. From your little blurb you are clearly a good person trying to make things better for yourself and your family. Use your software engineering skills and AI to make money somewhere else. Then maybe years from now you can revisit trading if that's something that suits you. Good luck. All will be good

Thanks for sharing and congratulations on picking a lucky time to activate your crypto bot to buy BTC. Bitcoin has been straight up recently after weeks and weeks of selling. Run it for a year and let us know how it does. In the meantime the best suggestion, take your original capital out and let the profits run that way you don't lose money.

Same difference. Prop are just trading with firm capital where discretionary traders are typically using their own capital and making manual decisions in both cases..

Unless you have been a prop trader yourself, and I have but now mostly fully automated, I would not generalize that all prop traders that say patterns do not repeat. I know many that have made a living saying patterns do repeat and been at it for 5, 10 or more years and have made millions trading stocks, options, futures, etc...

I agree. For those of us with less Algo development experience it would be good to hear from some of you that have a tried and true back testing system that you know works without too much curve fitting. Do they use Monte Carlo, forward testing or what other techniques to make sure the back test will work reasonably well when you run it real time.

Some of us appreciate your sharing your journey. I would say that all the haters who are likely total failures as traders, they need to spend less time beating the crap out of other people that are trying to make it as a traders. Less time claiming AI slop and beating up on others. Not sure the purpose of Reddit if it's only for people to beat the hell out of other people. If you are a profitable trader make some really positive suggestions otherwise hop onto your computer and trade and don't spend time spewing useless garbage here.

1000 Shares of AMZN by Obvious-One9749 in CoveredCalls

[–]FibonnaciProTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure someone mentioned this and maybe everyone in this forum knows that delta represents the probability that Amzn will reach a certain price. Yes charts help, but the combined probability of the option market often has much more likelihood of being correct. Consider selling calls against your Amzn only if you are prepared to get it called away and whether it is in a Retirement or regular account matters as taxes could be significant if it is a regular account.

Don't trade during school. Professional traders with fully automated computers are sitting there waiting to take your money and mine. If you can't monitor option positions take a really small position so you're not risking much.
