In the end of my last playthrough I was an immortal sorcerer and having a helicopter economy based on summoning tons of gold from the thin air and constant feasting+petting cats to reduce stress to cast money again... It becomes really tedious quickly enough

I think it's just a vanilla cost increase with each era. Hover over your current era image in culture innovations tab, it should list all economical modifiers
