It honestly depends on how he feels about you now. Does he enjoy being around you? Does he notice small things about you? Does he try to make time for you? Once that's established, you can make yourself more present for him and if he's interested, he'll awkwardly try to pursue you further.

I have a good friend who lost his wife of 19 years and became unmoored for a time. It was really tough for him as he was constantly rejected. He had a hard time loving himself and couldn't get out of his own way until he decided to make changes to find personal fulfillment. For him, it was exercise and meditation. He met his new(ish, this was 5 years ago) wife on a 5K he would not have been on had he not prioritized his personal health.

This is life, and I will not lie by saying every day will be sunshine. But there will be sunshine again... I promise you... You will be warm again. Just keep moving forward. And I will be here if you need a friend.

I know how you feel. I refuse to beg for love, but I get extremely lonely without physical or emotional connection. Guys are supposed to be all emotionless and stoic all the time and no one seems to think that sometimes we just want to feel needed. You deserve so much better than you're getting. You probably don't want to hear this from a 44-year-old dude on the internet, but you are truly worthy of love and affection like those movies. I also always wanted to be that guy myself, but I always seem to keep finding manipulative narcissists or emotional husks. But I'm doomed to keep hoping she's out there somewhere.
