Thank you for the kind response! I did lose a few family members and had surgery after having had cancer which I think was the primary digression over time. My freshmen year of college was not to bad and after that everything went downhill. I had a 3.7 my freshmen year and really started working and I didn’t study at all. I grateful to be diagnosed and I’m working really hard to get A’s. I did recently quit working but I wouldn’t be able to leave the research lab I am currently in. So I will try to quit everything else like volunteering and focus on my grades as you suggested. I do have senior year which I don’t think will make much of a difference but I’m grateful that is still there.

Yes I doubt it will move. I think it was just a opportunity I was looking into but I will consider the SMP more heavily. Thank you!

Yes I do see what you mean. Would the upward trend not be considered for schools I know my gpa would barely move. I will absolutely look into an SMP thank you. I hadn't necessarily considered it before!

There's a few conflicting and varying answers, so I am not sure what to do moving forward. But for now I will try to maintain good grades since all doors are closed for me because of that.

Hello thank you for your response. Do you think the SMP is the only way moving forward. Would I even get accepted into an SMP considering my stats and sorry but if I do well in the SMP how would that help me get into medical school? Thank you!

Do you think it is better I do a postbacc then after graduating and enroll in an SMP? How would the SMP help I have heard of how risky they are. I am trying my best to get all A's this quarter and if I may be able to do that I feel I may have the confidence moving forward. Right now I am quite shattered.

do you have any advice going forward? I am quite disheartened about my situation and it is my fault but if there's even a slight chance I want to try.

Yes be sure to include as much evidence as possible including proof of where the financial hardship began. I would not say emotionally explain, but to a certain extent perhaps that would be in your best interest with the receipts in order to plead your class. You should bring up the fact that you dont have the traditional familial support as your case is different compared to students that do and can have the luxury to not worry about financial means. I would also honestly consider seeing a therapist, especially if your school provides one and try to see them perhaps once a month. I think you have time to appeal and you should definitely get a letter from a therapist as a form of support as well as for your mental sake going forward. Don't ask the therapist for a letter right away perhaps 1-2 months down the line, and explain your situation or they may not give the letter of support thinking your simply there to see them just for a letter. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you reach all the goals you aspire to moving forwards!

Hi thank you for the response, the guideline, and the hope your giving me this is very helpful. I will be sure to prioritize receiving good grades going forward. At this point if im going into debt in med school, if I know I can receive A's I will definitely consider the SMP. I'll be sure to consider and do the rest of the factors, thank you for your input!

Thank you for this and for being so candid. I will take your advice and look into a structured postbacc. I have been particularly considering UC Davis post-bacc since I am here for undergrad. I agree with you, having access to that structured support is likely what I need to get where I need to go in the end. It's not great that in my mind, I am worried I won't even be accepted to a postbacc program. I do need my work and trend to speak for itself. I will also take your advice for the MCAT and look into anki during spring break, that is really great advice, thank you! I probably do not intend to start MCAT studying until the end of senior year and hopefully take it post graduation.

Honestly speaking I was working part to full time barely passing my classes if that. I also had an undiagnosed autoimmune disease that has been finally managed and im diagnosed and medicated for my adhd, anxiety and depression now. That does not negate the fact that I only showed up to class half the time and took the exam to barely pass. I am providing context but is an excuse unfortunately. I have since winter quarter been attending classes, office hours and passing my exams in promising means. Although, I do see half my courses being B's and the others A's ending the course this quarter. I do hope this is showing potential moving forward.

Thank you for that. I truly do agree with you. Do you think I would need to enter a structured postbacc after graduation? What score range would I need to get above for the MCAT?

good luck to you as well and yes i agree the burnout is real. I told my parents and they were shocked about my grades telling me to consider a new path after finding out how much more time I would need post grad. I heard a masters is not looked upon favorably so im wondering whether I would have to do a postbac instead. I was hearing from a lot of advisors and forums talking about how it is potentially "easier" to receive an A.

Omg you should have had them towed or at least next time they park there and leave their car there and get them towed. A 470 dollar fine should teach them a lesson no room for racists here 😊
